Our minister, the minister, Peter Burke, as we were talking about earlier, is against us, that he's been publicly against us.

So, you know, if there is a bed tax and, you know, it's a big if, it has to be designed very carefully and would have to be ring fenced for tourism and the public realm.

It couldn't just go into the black hole.

As I say, if you look at Dublin City Council, and that's where the bed tax is being proposed at the moment,

I think every hotel bedroom pays about €1,000 in commercial rates already.

And I remember in Dublin City Centre, they also pay a business improvement district, a bid levy, which I think is plus 2% or something.

So, you know, there's a lot of taxation already.

And it wouldn't just be applicable, this idea that it'll just be applicable to the foreign visitor sector.

It'll be applied to every visitor.

So if you're, you know, coming up for a GAA match or whatever, you would also have to pay it.

So there's an element of double taxation there as well.

So I think it's poorly thought through at the moment.

To be honest, the conversation has been going around forever.

I remember, you know, talking to you probably about it five, six, seven years ago.

And I think the powers that be, whether it's the local government or central government, have to put a lot more thought into how it's designed, how it would be raised, and what it would be spent on before the industry could really take it seriously.

Well, there is an inconsistency there that, you know, the idea of doubling the development levy on hotel construction and lifting the Dublin Airport passenger cap.
