What does DEI really mean in practice?

Sam Bamford 0:14
Hi guys, welcome back to Two Worlds Clyde podcast. On today's episode we have Lisa Spencer. Now, point to note, this episode was recorded on Wednesday, the day before the Geelong oil refinery fire. That's why we didn't discuss it during the episode. I hope you guys enjoy.
Lisa Spencer 0:29
Wait, can we make it a little bit warmer in here? Sure.
Sam Bamford 0:31
Is that okay? Yeah, yeah.
Lisa Spencer 0:32
Thank you.
Sam Bamford 0:34
I've just got to work this out. There we go. That's going to be at 26 degrees.
Lisa Spencer 0:42
Oh.
Sam Bamford 0:42
Is that okay?
Lisa Spencer 0:43
I don't know. I don't know what it, you know, different temperatures. I don't know. 26 sounds nice though.
Sam Bamford 0:48
Yeah, it'll be cooking in here in about 10 minutes. Sweet. I just see you're playing around with the Albo Gets Peg t-shirt.
Lisa Spencer 0:55
Yeah. This is great.
Sam Bamford 0:57
Link in the bio to my merch program for anyone wanting to know.
Lisa Spencer 1:01
Buy my merch.
Yes.
Sam Bamford 1:03
Well, because I hadn't seen much of your stuff before, maybe like a week ago. And then one of my friends sent it to me because we're in this really hilarious group chat.
Lisa Spencer 1:13
Who's this friend? They're a bit of a legend, hey?
Sam Bamford 1:15
Yeah, yeah. Well, there's five of them and they're all in the same group chat together. I'm not going to tell you the name of the group chat. I'll tell you the name of the group chat after the podcast, but I'll probably get arrested if you understand the name of the group chat. but um uh they sent it there and then one of them like sam i think this girl's paying you out and i'm like oh who the fuck is it i just swore actually i need to beat that out you can't swear in the first 10 minutes of the podcast so if you do swear i'll let you know after 10 minutes i've been trying not to swear so all right well then i'll try not to swear as well yeah and um yeah one of them said i think she's taking the piss out of you so i watched it and i'm like that's hilarious
Sam Bamford 1:50
That's really, really funny. And then one of my mates said, hey, you should get her on the podcast. So, Lisa, welcome to Two Hours Cloud Podcast.
Lisa Spencer 1:56
Thank you. Thanks. And that's great that you can take the piss and laugh about it. Yeah, yeah. Thank God, because, yeah, it sucks when they can't take it.
Sam Bamford 2:05
Yeah. Too many people getting triggered these days.
Lisa Spencer 2:07
Yeah.
Sam Bamford 2:08
But it's good. You know, I've had some pretty serious podcasts in the last couple of days. Yeah, I see my podcast on TV and shit like that. And it's just good to get someone in with a bit of a, I don't even know where this conversation will go, but it's good to get someone in with a bit of a relaxing, you know.
Lisa Spencer 2:24
Yeah, have a laugh.
Sam Bamford 2:25
Persona to yourself to have a laugh.
Lisa Spencer 2:27
Well, I can't guarantee it because I also like to go a bit cool conspiracy.
Sam Bamford 2:31
No, we can go there. We can definitely go there. We can go there. But I wanted to, one of my friends, because I did a reel last night about the new chief of the army. I call her chief of the DEI. And this, we still need to be verified because I'm going to tweet it. I heard that the new chief of army lost her pistol in Afghan and then she was awarded a DSM for that same Afghan trip. If you're from the military, that cracks you up because losing your weapon overseas definitely shouldn't mean that you should get a Distinguished Service Medal. But what do you think about her hiring?
Lisa Spencer 3:17
I mean, I don't have huge opinions. I just made a joke last night. I was like, this is like getting into an Uber and you see the driver is an Asian woman. You're just like... We're screwed. Like, is it the best option? Is it... It could be. It could be fine. You know, there's exceptions, you know.
Sam Bamford 3:37
Yeah, like one in a million.
Lisa Spencer 3:41
And I grew up around a lot of Asians, so I know the driving, okay.
Sam Bamford 3:48
It's like with black people. They don't swim, you know what I mean? Like there's no, like everyone, you know. What's that? Oh, there's a really, really funny movie one time and there's this black dude teaching this Asian woman to drive.
Yeah.
Sam Bamford 4:00
And he's like, you know, there's a reason I stay out of the water because black people can't swim. He's teaching his agent to drive. He's like, maybe you need to stay out of a fucking car.
Lisa Spencer 4:11
Yeah.
Sam Bamford 4:11
I need to beat that out again.
Lisa Spencer 4:14
I call it pattern recognition, you know.
