Why is revisiting Webflow’s discontinued features important for designers?

Yar 0:00
Hey Daniel, welcome back.
Daniel 0:02
AR, good to be back.
Yar 0:05
Nice. So today we'll be talking about uh Woflow's releases, these old releases that were introduced that um we we don't know what happened to yet. So we'll be talking about the the e-commerce, the users, the logic, all these releases that happened before. Um we want to see what what happened there and why did they not continue up until Tell now And um yeah, let's let's talk about it. What do you think, Daniel?
Daniel 0:35
Yeah, well we just had the latest Westpool conference and And the thing is that in these Webflow conferences, there's always so much hype around these new features. Like every year. It's really it's just like you said uh the last time, I think, it's just like an Apple uh keynote, you know? They do these amazing visuals, these amazing case studies, these amazing interviews, like they bring in on these like top tier agencies or these these clients. clients, like it's it's really great, like it's really spectacular. But then like A lot can happen, like um lot of the times there are just like standard features that will be announced that are, you know, available on on other platforms that let's say like WordPress has or whatever.
Daniel 1:26
Um and that they're that people have been wishing for for years, right? So One of the ones that I think is has been announced actually uh Two years ago uh was uh users memberships. So Crazy. Uh and they discontinued it this January, so it didn't even take Uh one and a half years and It got discontinued, unfortunately. So what's what's your experience with uh memberships?
Yar 1:59
I've um I'm I'm used to member stack to be honest. I we I used to use member stack from before they announced users.

How did the hype around Webflow’s big releases compare to the actual results?

Yar 2:06
And when they once they announced users, I tried to use it one time, it did not work well. Um it was super complicated. I and it was like to be honest, it was a bit buggy as well. Um member stack was way better, so I I just opted for member stack. I never used users. I think this was an experience. experience that a lot of people have, that's why um they discontinued it. But yeah. But yeah, I mean they released it, we were hoping. I was very happy. A lot of people were very happy. I remember as well when they announced it. We're all like, hey, uh this is gonna be a great feature. Uh but the work on it I guess was not uh Was not done.
Daniel 2:45
Yeah, yeah, like I I actually made the mistake to to even take on a project that needed members and I had to face the the problems made project like And then I had to, you know, it's it was very uncomfortable for me to then ask the client like, Hey, it looks like this feature is not working and I've been back and forth with the Webflow support. for for months and nothing happened. It it didn't get better. I duplicated the project. I rebuilt the entire membership uh flow from the start. It didn't work. And then it was very uncomfortable for me to ask the client to hey, well, actually you should pay like a thirty dollar member stack subscription because looks like this is broken. And Like this is a feature that like Webflow, sorry, um WordPress has out of the box, right?
Daniel 3:46
So um True. Like this should be like a standard thing. Like it doesn't have to be a paid membership. We don't have to have a subscription thing. Like for that you have members stack. But at least like get some users and like it's very useful to to have your own users and you know, create a platform where, you know, people can turn to and Um you can manage your users internally from Webflow. It was really, really great. And I'm very disappointed that it didn't turn out the way they promised it. And it was so hyped. So hyped. So yeah.
Yar 4:20
It was, yeah.
Daniel 4:21
We'll see.

What caused the rise and eventual shutdown of Webflow Users?

Daniel 4:22
Yeah.
Yar 4:23
It was so hyped, I remember, yeah. It was it was a great feature. I I'm not sure again like Something must have happened. They were like no more users. Uh and they just dropped it. But But yeah, like users came in as well. I think logic logic came in at the same time. Yeah. If you remember that one. Yeah. I think uh yeah also discontinued.
Daniel 4:49
And logic came even before, I think one year before that. Maybe they even came in like
