We're continuing our remembrance of Brian Bishop. Bald Brian, the baldest one. Integral cast member of the show. Founding cast member of the show on the majority of the episodes.
He's on over 3,000. There's so many moments to choose from. Just trying to give a chronological representation of his contributions throughout the years. He'll forever be missed. Coming up first today, we have Adam Krulishow, 735. Picturing Dr. Bruce, Alison Rosen, and Brian Bishop. This one's from January of 2012.
You guys, please imagine being me for just one second. I am going to leave for Laguna Seca, which is up north, which is about a five, five and a half hour drive from where I live. And I'm racing that day all day on Thursday. And I got to get a full day in over there. So we're going to need... When I say we, I mean Matt and Jeff. We're going to need to leave my house on Thursday at like before 6 a.m. And... which is perfect because I have a radio tour lined up to promote Rich Man, Poor Man, my e-book, on that morning. And it's from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. So I say, fuck it. Let's leave at 5.55. I'm getting up anyway. I'll be on the road, and I'll do this thing from 5.55 or 6 o'clock till 8 a.m. So everyone meets over my house.
It's still dark outside. Everyone takes the equipment, the cameras and all that shit. We all pile it into my car and we all head out up the 101 at 6 a.m. And at 6 a.m., I call in the number. It's like this. It's like a nine, 10 digit number that you call in. that is the number of the operator of the company that rolls these things. They set up a roster, and they print it out, and they usually go east to west in the time zone, and they give you like 23 stations you're going to be talking to, and they start at 6 a.m., and it goes all the way down to whenever you're done. And so at 6 a.m., I call into the chick. Now, I get a piece of paper that says, here's the chick's number, and her name is, A-L-I-S-Y-N.
Allison.
Yes.
That's what I would think.
That's what you would think, except for you're an Allison.
Right.
Who probably knows some alternative spellings.
Yeah.
Oh. I don't know any Allisons with a Y. I only know the ones with an O. You're an O, aren't you? I'm an O. Do you know any Ys?
I know of... Her
tail of a Y.
Yes, I have, and I'm not in favor of it. Oftentimes, the Y will be where the I is. So this is some newfangled other thing.
Well, right. First off, they're names that traditionally are spelled three different ways, like Kathy with a K or with a C or something like that, or Brian with a Y or an I or whatever it is. But Allison, to me, was never really up for debate. I just knew the old school Allison. It's an old name, and there's just one way to go. But evidently there's not. But when you're looking at the piece of paper with no last name that just has the A-L-I-S-Y-N, and you understand we're living in a society where everyone has a fucked up name. Mm-hmm. There's a lot of Jermichels and stuff like that. You don't know anyone's name anymore because of a ton of different ethnicities and just a ton of different assholes who like to spell their name just a little bit different and pronounce it just a little bit different.
So when I'm looking at this piece of paper. I don't know if it's Allison or Allison or Allison.
Why does the conversation shift to the confusing “Allison” phone‑call saga?
I don't know where anyone's from anymore. You've got to realize it. You're not
calling into an urban station.
Well, you live in the United States. People are from fucking Pakistan here and shit. Like, you don't know where people are from.
