So to set up this free agency in trade period, uh, we need to understand some of the names involved. We need to understand um how significant they are. And probably the free agency list is the one we should do first, given that that's likely to drop on Friday.
And uh a close friend of yours, Lockie Neal, could be the very top of that pile. Collingwood. Amazing how this has happened. Amazing how this has seemingly got done. Because my understanding is that um he was weighing up not approaches, but let's say conversations with Adelaide, had a conversation with St Kilda as well. There was no doubt West Coast uh tabled an offer in the end. Fremantle were around the mark. But Collingwood just blew it out of the water. Your former club came with a three million dollar offer across three years and it's been a foregone conclusion now for several weeks.
Well, I think it's a no brainer for what they need, Collingwood. They're la uh they're in their bottom five for center clearance, clearance and first possession. Whereas Brisbane I'm not not saying Lockie R Locking was the only reason that Brisbane are number one in all those three stats, but he's a key factor. So I was in a very similar situation years ago when I moved from Hawthorne to Collingwood. It was the exact type of player they were looking for and came in and filled a role. So I think in terms of supporting Nick Dacos, who they want to keep him happy and they want to keep him at the club for a very, very long time. Getting Lockheed Neal in who's still got some really good football ahead of him, espe especially this next twelve months.
You know, he could he could have been in the All Australian team potentially this year, so You
know, I think it's a smart move. So this and we'll talk a lot about Collingwood 'cause obviously that's the club that um you're at and you want to flag at. This philosophy of just topping up, you know, refusing to accept that you're gonna drop down the ladder like other clubs have accepted in recent years, it it is great for players like Lockie Neal, it's great for players like Jesse Hogan, but is it sustainable long term?
Well, Geelong have shown that it is sustainable. So there's a model there. And I think if you're a club that's a destination club that has a big fan base, that has the attraction of playing at the M C G and always wants to contend, then yeah, I I think so. I think there's certain clubs that can do that and Collingwood fits in that umbrella.
