What did the hosts say about the AI apocalypse and why are they still listening?
Coming up on AI Having a Clue.
If you're still listening, thank you. Thanks. It'll get better, I promise.
Chat GPT and Claude walk into a bar. The world hasn't ended yet. We've had another one. What? And another one escape. Meta enter the AI fold. And AI gets a
rebrand. How many t-shirts did we buy in bulk that are now going to be useless?
Sorry, I can't move on from it just yet. It's weird. It's a bit weird. He's like one of the richest people on planet Earth and he wears the same leather jacket and black t-shirt every day. It's a bit boring. Hello, welcome to AI Having a Clue brought to you with KPMG, the podcast where we unpack the wild world of AI. And I am George Butler, tech novice, average human and well, survivor so far of the AI apocalypse. Well
done you and me, James Chandler, AI enthusiast and the Michelangelo of machine learning. Look at that smile on your face, George Butler. Scott! What? He likes it. I do.
I do. You know, I do. It's all bad. They're getting better. They are. All right. Welcome to the show. We've got loads happening this week. It's been another bumper week for news. So there's a lot
to
break, break down. James has got his big thing again. And of course, we've got a brand new listener question from you. But before we go any further, James, are you well? We're still alive. The kind of the apocalypse that we talked about last week. It's not yet happened. We're still here.
No. Yeah. Sort of living week by week. I think if we can eke out another couple of episodes, we should be all right. But yeah, still here. Still good. Thriving and surviving.
I have a question for you, James, because after last week's episode and I must admit, I think I've calmed down a little bit. Like I was I did almost become like a raving and ranting madman. last week it was it all got a bit it got got to be a little bit all the all the AI news the AI apocalypse news but after we covered all of that last week after all the doomsday and fear and and also you know covering how ridiculous these tech giants are and and frankly what a mess they're making of this new technology my question for you James Chandler is Do you actually still like AI? Love it.
Used it more in the last week, actually. Double down. Even more prompts. Even more pocket. Even more bit of Siri action. No, no, it's not dampened my enthusiasm for it. Not one bit. It's paying the mortgage as well, I suppose, isn't it? So, yeah, still very excited by it.
But I mean, you know, you started this show. You weren't just our tech expert. You were Mr. Half Glass Full. In fact, you've talked about this before. Your AI glass was overspilling. You were loving it so much. Surely this has dampened your enthusiasm at least a bit.
How does Microsoft’s AI boss describe the risk of a new “silicon species” competing with humans?
In some ways, I think it balances out your point of view, doesn't it? The capability, the promise of it, the things that it can enable that you could never have done before. I am still utterly amazed. Every time. Every time I think about what's my big thing going to be for this week or I create. So I was in a car the other day and I had to prep for something. I couldn't read it. I had pages of notes. I just got chat to create me an audio file in my voice. It wasn't amazing, but it was like, isn't that great? I could listen to it in the car. So I'm amazed by it constantly. Sorry, hold on, hold
on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. You got it to make it in your voice. Could you not have got it to make it in, I don't know, like a different presenter's voice that you enjoy listening to on a weekly basis, twice a week?
It's weird. I've got this filter. I can take an episode of the podcast and I put it in and I just have it all as my voice. And
it's great. The funniest part about that is it's actually probably true. Before we get into all the latest and breaking news, James, we have a slight issue on our hands. I don't think SI having a clue is a very catchy podcast title, is it? What are you putting an S on there for? Well, if you haven't missed it, AI is no more. Artificial intelligence is gone, RIP, because Donald Trump the other day, well, if you haven't heard, he said this.
