We are here to do one of our world famous, and I think we could say one of the most anticipated episodes of our grand All the Feelings hiatus, that is the taste test episode. And I'll tell you, this year it's, I don't know, it's either a doozy or not a doozy at all. But those are the two options to help us out, as usually our dear friend of the show, the someone who now I think is just has been made a nerd. Make me a nerds, Mandy Kaplan.
Thank you. Thank you all. I am the podcaster, the pod snacker that smiles back. I messed it up, but I came up with that all by myself. Trademark, Podsnacker.
That's my old snack. Perfect.
What is The Goldfish Experience episode about and who’s on the panel?
What are we doing today? What are we actually doing?
Well, I think I was the one that suggested this, and I was walking down my neighborhood. It's this real small mom and pop shop called Ralph's, and I was trying to see what part of what aisle seems to have gone insane. And Mandy already gave you a little bit of clue about the idea of it smiling back. remember goldfish you remember there was this there was this wonderful farm in the Pepperidge area and they just had this one thing this one fish and it was cheddar and that was it and now there are 900 varietals of goldfish and this seemed very Heinz saucy sauce this seemed very up our alley of what has happened my sister Allie does not like that expression
Oh, she doesn't like things up her alley. Oh, okay. True story. Good. Noted. So that's what we did. I mean, you could say it was meant to be. I happened to be at our local neighborhood market, a little store called Fred Meyer. And I called you, Tom, and it happened you were standing in the goldfish aisle while I was in the goldfish. It was like it was meant to be. Totally unplanned.
Standing or on his trundle bed that he has installed in the goldfish aisle.
Laying down.
It's kind of a Murphy bed thing.
Reading a TV magazine. Come on. Yep.
Yep.
Yep. What is that Sean Cassidy up to this week? Topical. And so we decided to splurge, and we got so many. There are so many goldfish, y'all. I don't even know. I don't even know what happened. It's like the aisle. You don't see it. It's like one of those lenticular or like those 3D posters. You don't even see the goldfish until you cross your eyes just a little bit, and then... They become a goldfish face smiling at you. It is absurd. There are individual product lines within the goldfish line, sub products, sub substances.
Minnows, if you will. There are minnows. Minnows.
There are Pokemon flavored goldfish. We didn't get those. I didn't get the Charmander.
There's a lot of merchandising tie-ins. So they're just the regular goldfish, but different colors. So we didn't get those. We wanted to branch out.
Right. And we also we should say we didn't get the basics like we didn't get just goldfish. There's no regular goldfish. There is no even there is a line of goldfish called flavor blasted. And there is one like flavor blasted cheddar, which is just like goldfish, but more.
How did the hosts discover the overwhelming Goldfish aisle at the grocery store?
We didn't get that either because we thought, OK, we get it right. That's it's cheese. You've made your point. We got the weirdest stuff we could find. Yeah. And so we have we've created we have the whole smorgasbord of fish and we've created our own rubric. of how we're going to judge.
We've created it. Pete has designed this wonderful thing.
Tommy and I stayed up all night working on our rubric like we do.
I'm a real rubric head. Pete, will you break this down for us? Because it seems like there's 900 parts to each one. 900? No. Okay.
So the rubric itself is... It is defining. We wanted to we know we're going to actually be scoring these things. We want to know we want to be able to declare a winner. What is the best goldfish of the goldfish? So I want our first category is truth in advertising.
Why do the hosts think Goldfish snack varieties have multiplied so much?
How well does the fish deliver on its promises? This is how accurately does the flavor match the name?
