Why did Krista initially think life coaching was a scam or MLM?
I felt like it was a scam. I felt like it was an MLM. I felt like it was inauthentic. I don't think that people should just be willy-nilly on the street calling themselves a coach. I want to become a life coach, but calling myself one feels embarrassing. The title carries a lot of baggage. Think a therapist without the credentials. I completely thought coaching was fake and stupid and not real. And then I started doing it, and now I have no need to. Explained who are you to tell me what to do? I had that same part come through before I started going to therapy where I was like, who's a therapist to tell me what to do? And this person came to be probably the second most important relationship at the time in my life next to my therapist, but for some reason.
reason in life we kinda have this belief that we don't need a coach or we don't need someone that would help us be better or excel or see our biases or help hold us accountable or support us on the path. Hello and welcome to Almost 30 Podcast. My name is Krista Williams, and I'm so glad you're here. Truly, I've been just loving recording these solos. I hope you can feel the love that I have. And I know everyone, when they do podcasts, they're like, I'm so excited for my guest. I'm so excited for this episode. It's just bringing me back to the old days of us just sitting. Sitting on our closet floors recording this podcast. Ten years ago, I started this podcast with my best friend Lindsay Simsic, the co-host and co-founder of the show.
We
were on the closet floors and we had more questions than answers. We felt super lost in our lives. And We kinda thought we would start recording. about these questions that we had about feeling lost. And I know that sounds like a weird concept for a podcast. And there's little value in that prem proposition. But hey, it started out as a really authentic and curious quest to understand ourselves more deeply, to become who we came here to be and to live happier and healthier lives. And now almost 30 is a community of people all over the world. We've have over 700,
we
have 800 episodes actually. We have over 800 episodes. And we have a book that came out in June of last year that I feel so connected and in love with. So you can get the book anywhere books are sold. But on the podcast we have on experts and leaders, teachers, some of the best and most powerful and influential minds in spirituality and health and wellness. And we also have my mind. And then there is also my mind. When I do Solo episodes. I love these conversations because I can just bring a really honest, authentic take on what's going on in my life. I'll answer questions from you all. I'll talk about things that I've worked through. And on the solo episodes, I explore topics like social media as shadow work, internal family systems, parts work, how our highly s how being highly sensitive correlates to body issues.
Um, I kind of run the gamut, but today's episode is going to be about coaching. And being a coach. Okay. We're talking about the life coaching, spirituality coaching, transformational coach space, which is a conversation I honestly never thought I'd have. So let me walk you through what it's like to be a coach, what the coaching industry is, how I see it, how you can become a coach, some of the pros and cons. I'll do a Q ⁇ A and I'll kind of walk through my journey to becoming a coach at the beginning because I kind of want you guys to have a lay of the land. An understanding of how I got to this place where I'm now working with women all over the world, helping them through Life transitions and helping them navigate to become the best version of who they are as a coach.
So let me just say first of all Before I became a coach. I had so much judgment and shadow about the coaching industry. I felt like it was a scam. I felt like it was an MLM. I felt like it
was
inauthentic. I didn't really understand it. I was like, this is just all. Who are you to tell me what to do? I have such a strong rebel part of me that is so discerning of who tells me what to do that it's like, who are you to tell me what to do?
