Hi, you guys. So, today on Killer Thriller DocuEdition, we are diving into the case behind Baby Doe. This one is... This one hit me different, you guys. And for those of you that have seen it, I'm so interested in how you felt about it. So, 30 years ago, Gail Ritchie, a young woman from a conservative Christian community in rural Ohio... gave birth alone and left her newborn in the woods. Now a devoted mother of three, her quiet suburban life shatters when DNA evidence links her to the infamous cold case of Goga's child. I'm sorry, because it's the name of the town, you guys. They sort of adopted the baby, and I'm probably mispronouncing the town. I don't remember exactly how it's pronounced. Anyway, arrested for murder and vilified in the media, authorities dismiss her claim that the baby was stillborn.
Facing a possible life sentence, Gayle and her family must confront religious stigma, community judgment, and long buried shame in the fight for her freedom. And I really, if you guys would comment and write in, and I'm dying to know how you all feel after watching this, because this one in particular, You know, a lot of these, we watch them and then we are enraged or then we are afraid or we are dumbfounded and angry. The only emotion I had after watching this crime documentary was just pure sadness. So anyway, we are gonna bring in, lucky enough, we have the director here. Her name is Jessica Earnshaw and we're gonna bring her in and ask her some serious questions. All right, let's bring in Jessica.
Hi. How are you? Well, thank you so much for joining us. Of course. I have to first say that, you know, this is what we do. We do true crime. And I want to say outside of this particular documentary, I'm left feeling angry, uh, sickened, dumbfounded, afraid. I think this is the first time, maybe not the first, but it stands out to me that I just feel so sad. Like this left me so sad. And so that's sort of the first thing I wanted to say. And it was really, really, it is really, really powerful. So congratulations to you. I know you've been working on it a long time, right? Yeah, I started in 2020. So yeah, it's been like five years. Because I have also, I don't think, seen a documentary where it's so documented.
