Hi guys, welcome to Legally Brunette. I will be your host today, Emily Simpson, along with... Shane. Okay, today I am excited because we are bringing to you the much anticipated part two of our Scott Peterson episodes. I'm sure if you haven't listened to the earlier one, make sure you go back and listen to our first episode on Scott Peterson. Actually, I'd had so many people that were reaching out and requesting Scott Peterson. And as I said earlier, I wanted to wait until we got to the point where I felt like we could talk about and had enough to really dig our, I don't know, dig our teeth into the filing by... Sink our teeth. Sink our teeth into the filing by the Los Angeles Innocence Project. So now that they've been representing Scott Peterson, they believe that he's factually innocent.
There's been a two-part documentary that has come out on their new findings and what they've... come across over their, you know, I believe they've interviewed like over a hundred witnesses and they've done their discovery. So more than two decades after Scott Peterson was convicted, something unexpected happened. A team of lawyers decided to take another look and what they say they found was enough to fill over 800 pages of legal filings. The Los Angeles Innocence Project, an organization dedicated to overturning wrongful convictions, took on Scott's case in 2023. And in the spring of 2025, they filed a petition arguing that the jury who convicted him never heard the full story. The police had tunnel vision.
That evidence pointing elsewhere was ignored, dismissed, and in some cases allegedly destroyed.
