Aotearoa Adventures: The New Zealand Travel Podcast

024: A Lifetime of Adventure and a Few Close Calls with Russell Jennings

17 Nov 2022

Description

Russell's adventures started during school, when he would skip class to explore the local forest and bush. Now retired, he's walked and cycled most of the North Island and hiked 317 km across the width of the North Island in 14 days - from Napier to Taranaki. He's cycled around Lake Taupō over 14 times, including a 640 km endurance race. He cycled 6600 km across Europe over 7 weeks and still has more adventures on his bucketlist. Russell shares some of his mishaps and favourite adventures, including sharing his love of the outdoors with his children. He believes that spending time in nature can help build resilience and this is true for his life - after having a serious burn accident, which injured his hands at nineteen. To this he says, "there's always a way around," and he's definitely proved it! Thank you so much for tuning in and coming along for the ride.
