All right, thank you everyone. It is six oh two on Wednesday, September twenty-third, twenty twenty six. I'm gonna officially call this to order. I am looking around. We have a quorum on both sides, on both respective bodies. Thank you everyone for joining us today. We have a lot to discuss, and I'm hoping that we will also have a fruitful conversation at the end to make sure that we are fully aligned on the issues that impact. both boards. I'm gonna turn it over to my counterpart, Chair Latif, for his remarks. Uh good e good evening everyone. Thank you uh again for coming. We always look forward to working with the Board of County Supervisors on a host of ra a range of issues and we're hoping that um tonight's presentation will provide the public and um and and us a good opportunity to chat about the most important things and priorities we have in this county.

Madam Chair and Mr. Chairman, before the board and school board begin their discussion and disc in consideration of universal pre-K, school enrollment and capacity, shared facilities, capital planning, the economic forecast, debt management, and other school-related items. I need to declare a personal interest in these matters. My wife is a school's employee. As a school's employee, my wife and I are members of a group which is affected by these matters. I will be participating in these matters because I am able to do so fairly, objectively, in the public interest. Thank you, Madam Chair, Mr. Chairman.

All right, thank you very much, Doctor Latif. Thank you, Madam Chair. Thank you all for being here. Um, you're gonna hear a number of presentations from the Prince William County staff, um the first being Universal Pre-K. We are extremely excited about this program. This is a first in the Commonwealth for any county, one of the first for any large county in the nation. There are a number of large cities with universal pre-K. There's five states with Universal Pre-K, but we will be the first outside of a state to actually you know, who's who's doing it already to do it and we're doing it on our own. We're doing it with the help of the Board of County Supervisors, the support um that they have provided the school division over a number of years.

You're gonna hear a little bit about you're gonna hear actually a lot about how we plan on making this happen. This will be um A program where any child who's four years old will have access to a pre-K program regardless of income in this county. And when we talk about affordability and we talk about things that matter to our public, especially a county like ours where we do have a lot of young folks, this matters for our families. This is a big deal. On average, it's about $15,000, we believe, in savings for a family to send someone to a public uh universal pre-K program. Program, and that's a significant savings. It opens up the opportunity for those same families to send their three-year-old maybe to a pre-K program that they would not have otherwise thought of.
