This week’s episode features Florida-based muralist Derek Donnelly. The thing that really stuck out to me through Derek’s interview was his strive to create an artistic community in the St. Pete area. Doing this art thing all by ourselves is just scratching the surface of how much fun creating for a living can be. Having just come off another Artist Academy Mural Meetup, and getting to spend the weekend with other like-minded artists, I can attest to how important it is to connect with other artists. If anything, having artsy conversations about business and life makes me feel less crazy. Being an artist is an odd job, and complementing that with odd people (because let’s face it, artists are awesomely odd) helps connect the dots, in an odd way. Derek gets this and so much more. Also, he lives in a shipping container, which I think is awesome!
