259. Perfecting Your Pitch to Land More Mural Gigs with Derrik Diza

01 May 2023

Description

Happy Mural Month! This week’s episode features California-based muralist and business mind Derrik Diza. Not long ago, I came across one of Derrik’s posts in a Facebook group talking about how he’s getting new business and advising other artists on how they can too. Another business-minded artist looking to share industry “secrets” in order to help others make more money with a paintbrush? Hello! I had to introduce myself and get him on the podcast. Derrik and I talked on the phone about business for an hour prior to this conversation, then another hour after we concluded the interview. Basically, we both love the topics of murals+money+mentorship, and it’s so motivating for me to chat about it with someone else as interested in it as I am. I think you’ll find this chat motivating because Derrik breaks down the process of pitching and sets realistic expectations for results. This is the non-sexy side of running an art business but as he’s proved in his own business, if you put in the work the results will follow. Here’s the pitch rundown:Personalize (don’t sound like a robot)Give Credibility (list companies you’ve worked with in the past)Mural Showcase (share impressive images of your work)The Process (what does working with you entail?)Set Expectations (share what the starting cost would be)For a better explanation and examples of this process, listen to this week’s episode all about pitching with Derrik Diza. www.ArtistAcademy.co Derrik's IG: https://www.instagram.com/influentialwalls/
