What prompted Arden and Ben to record this extra episode about Dylan Cease?
It's at the Letters for the second time on Wednesday, July the 8th, 2026. Arden's Well and Ben Nicholson-Smith, our producer. Christian Ryan, here's what happened. Ben and I recorded a podcast giving our thoughts on the Blue Jays early on Wednesday ahead of their series finale against the Giants in San Francisco. And then we all went on our merry way and flipped on the television. And oh, hey, there's Dylan Cease taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning. So we have reconvened to record another episode just to reflect and react and give our thoughts on what Dylan Cease put on display there at Oracle Park in San Fran. That will be coming out here on Wednesday night. And then if you're looking for the earlier episode that we recorded here on Wednesday with more takes on Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
and the offense and other pitchers, etc., that'll be in your feed first thing on Thursday morning, July the 9th. Ben, your thoughts on Dylan Cease's pitching performance here on Wednesday.
Yeah, incredible performance. And very cool to see him take no-hit bid into the ninth inning. I mean, any time you see a pitcher doing that, you kind of pay attention and wonder what might be ahead. And I think especially for someone like Dylan Cease, who has just such good stuff, he has done it before. He was dialed in against the Giants in the series finale. So didn't get it done, but incredible performance. And Low key ends up becoming a very positive series for the Blue Jays here to win by that margin. Late homers from George Springer and Vlad Guerrero Jr. So really one of the best days that we've seen from the Blue Jays this season.
Yeah, it's not so crazy when you just look at the results of the road trip and you say, you know, the Blue Jays went into Seattle and they dropped two of three. Not a crazy outcome. Forget the context of how those results came to be. And then they went to San Francisco to play one of the worst teams in baseball and took two. two of three so they're now three of three on the road trip like totally normal like forget everything that happened with the offense and with uh plush dragon toys and with no hit bids uh this that and the other uh it's a three and three road trip pretty normal for this team um dylan cease joins uh some rather ignoble uh blue jays history here on wednesday uh most will remember that dave steve lost four
Perfect games are no-hitters in the ninth inning for the Toronto Blue Jays before he finally threw a no-hitter. And three of the four that Dave Steeb lost were with two outs. Brandon Morrow and Dustin McGowan also lost no-hitters in the ninth. Bowden Francis, many will remember, lost two no-hitters in the ninth in the span of a few weeks in 2024. So Dylan Cease is added to that list. And I don't know if that's... I haven't seen a tally of across the league... Most no hitters lost in the ninth inning in the history of the franchise. It feels like a lot, but it might be the sort of thing that other franchises have a lot of as well. But it does feel like a lot then.
Yeah, it does. And, you know, having seen some of those games covered the Bowden Francis near no hit bids a couple of years ago. They're so cool. The tension just builds home or road. The tension builds when you have that one individual going for it. I've been fortunate enough to be at a lot of different no-hitters involving the Blue Jays. There's a Justin Verlander one. There was a Detroit Tigers combined no-hitter. Houston Astros no-hit the Blue Jays with Ronell Blanco on the mound. James Paxton no hit the Blue Jays so even you know Homer Road whether it's a player on the Blue Jays or a player against the Blue Jays it's really really cool and it seemed like we were heading toward that so clearly some disappointment involved as well on the part of Dylan Cease but really he has so much to be proud of when it comes to this start when it comes to his first half of the season with the Blue Jays and just a tremendous outing from him from start to finish.
Yeah, I remember I did the post-game interview with Bowden on the field after one of the no-hit bids.
