I am here at Rogers Centre right now after the conclusion of a three-game series against the White Sox, and this was not how the Blue Jays wanted to draw to start out their... their second half of the season. They lost two of three to the White Sox. They did not play well. They did not hit nearly enough. So the plan here is I'm going to take a look at what happened this weekend, where it leaves the Blue Jays big picture, and Look at some of the consequences of what's happened.

It is surprising that they are where they are. But look, this is it. We've got to be realistic about what's happening here. So with that, I'm going to dive in and basically start taking stock of what we saw this weekend.
It was... I mean, offensively in particular, they only scored five runs all weekend here on Sunday in the series finale. They got a bounce back from Trey Savage, but they only had four hits in the afternoon. They couldn't score a single run. Even the one game they did win, the middle game on Saturday, they didn't score a single run. It was just one run that they scored. So big picture. As I am recording this right now, the Red Sox are still playing. So if the Red Sox win, and they are winning right now, that would put them four and a half games ahead of the Blue Jays in the wildcard. And it's kind of... it's flipped quickly because for so long it was like, oh, they're struggling, but, you know, they're two and a half games out of the wildcard.
You know, they're one and a half games out of the wildcard. It's, you know, it's okay. They just need to go on a run and they'll be fine. Well, now that the Red Sox have gotten this hot, Even if the Blue Jays go on a run, well, the Red Sox are simultaneously on a run, so it's hard to gain ground on them. The amount of ground that you have to cover is pretty substantial. And correspondingly, we have seen the playoff odds drop. So as I sit here right now and... If you hear any background noise here at Rogers Center, it's fans and kids going around the bases here on Sunday. But as I sit here right now on the fourth floor at Rogers Center, their playoff odds are 14%. So that's about one in seven. It is objectively unlikely that they are going to make the playoffs.
It's possible. And I don't want to rule that out. I don't want to I don't want to be such a naysayer that I ignore that 14%. It could happen. For that to happen, they would have to go on a run and it would have to happen soon. And it was interesting hearing John Schneider talk about this series just a few minutes ago at the field level at Rogers Center. And he described this series as frustrating. He described this team as a little bit flat.

And it's interesting because knowing John Schneider, He's really good at messaging these things. He's skillful, and he puts thought into it. And so it's not an accident that he would say this team is a little bit flat. One, it's what he saw, and he clearly didn't love that. And two... he knows that that message will reach his players. And I would presume he wants them to come out against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday when their next series begins and play with more fire. And they need that. John Schneider feels that they need a little bit more and not any flatness.
