What is the Australian Foundation Investment Company (AFIC)?
Property investors often talk about using debt to build wealth. In the share market, that's called gearing. With the BetaShares WealthBuilder range, investors can access moderate gearing into shares, and with the newly launched GG-BL, That means exposure to a diversified portfolio of around 1,300 global companies excluding Australia, all with no loan applications, credit checks, or margin calls. Gearing magnifies both gains and losses, so it's only suitable for investors with a very high tolerance for risk. You can learn more about the WealthBuilder range of ETFs at the BetaShares website. And don't forget to read the PDS and TMD to decide if it's right for you. BetaShares Capital Limited is the issuer.

It is wonderful to be back, Owen.
Yeah, we are talking about a listed investment company, LIC for short, LIC even shorter.
Yes. So we're breaking our rule from just covering share and ETFs in our regular monthly deep dive series. And we're talking about a listed investment company today, which we'll refer to as LICs throughout the episode. In particular, AFIC, the Australian Foundation Investment Company. Yeah, long name there. I only know it as AFIC, really.
Yeah, you fell asleep halfway through. So AFIC is really popular with our broker sponsor, which is Perlo. It's the second most popular LIC on the Perlo platform. So if we refer to LIC, it's just like when we say ETF instead of exchange-traded fund. We'll explain the differences. We'll go into what... I guess AFIC does, like what it does for you, what it does as a business, all that type of stuff. We'll probably get some questions. If you do have questions, be sure to send them through to us on social media, or if you're a Raskor member, jump into the community. Just a reminder that even if we do do a review of a share or an ETF, we're not necessarily recommending this particular thing. Neither Kate nor I, at the date of recording, which is the 10th of November 2022, have a position in AFIC.
They are not a sponsor. We don't... They don't know who you are. We only just realized that their office is about 50 meters from ours. And so we don't, yeah, there's no connection. But we also wanted to stress that just because we have it on the show doesn't mean we're recommending it. Please, if you do need to seek the advice of an advisor, please go and do that.
