What financial challenges do young Australians face in their 20s?
Here's something worth knowing if you've been meaning to make the switch to a better broker. To celebrate their fifth birthday, Perla are offering three free trades a month for five months if you transfer your portfolio across with a minimum of $1,000. For anyone investing regularly, that's meaningful savings on brokerage that can stay invested instead. Perla is chess-sponsored, built specifically for long-term investors, and now has over $3 billion invested on the platform. If you've been with a platform that doesn't quite fit your strategy anymore, it might be time to take a look. You'll find all of the details at perla.com slash LP slash RASC. That's perla.com slash LP slash RASC.
As much as people do say, oh, just move overseas, you're young, have fun, having your finances and savings is a significant part of moving overseas as financial stress can cause a lot of stress and anxiety and uncertainty.
Did you know that in Australia the average age for a first home buyer is 37 years old? I was blown away when I heard that. Gone are the days when people buy houses in their early 20s and they've settled in, they're married and they're paying down their mortgage by their mid to late 20s. Today we're going to talk about all the things that you need to think about in your 20s when it comes to money and I'm joined by a very special guest. in this episode. We're going to bring someone in who is on the younger end, at least on the younger end of me, and hear what it's like to move countries, to pursue a career, and invest all in your 20s. All that and more on this episode of the Australian Finance Podcast.

It's good to finally have you in front of the camera for everyone else to see you and to hear from you.
So thanks for joining me. Thanks for taking time out of your actual job to come and have a chat with me.
No, thank you for having me. It's weird being on the front of the camera this time, whereas usually I'm on the back end of things, on the design side of things here at Rask.
Yeah, so you do, for people that don't know what you do at Rask, do you just want to tell us what you do each day?
Yes. So I started with RASC, oh, eight months ago? Yeah, it sounds about right. Seven months ago. And I'm part of the design team here. So it's just myself and the senior designer, Soph. And we tackle the entire RASC design production from website to... A lot of events and marketing collateral. We just developed some pretty fun-looking pens and notebooks. Yes. And, yeah, just everything that you see about RAS that is visual, that's essentially my role.
How can moving overseas impact your financial situation?
That's cool. Yeah, it's awesome.
Sophie, who I might say has not appeared on the podcast yet, but would also make for a great podcast guest.
We're trying to get her.
One of these days, maybe she'll listen to this and feel the heat. But so you do all of that and people can probably hear from your accent, which is lovely that you're from a country not too far from here. Tell us a little bit more of your background and when you made the jump over the sea.
Yes, so another term you could say for that is across the ditch. So I'm from New Zealand, born and raised in a small town in Hawke's Bay. Grew up there and then moved to the big city. Well, big city compared to Melbourne. Moved to Auckland to study at University of Auckland. Studied a Bachelor's of Design and Commerce there. I worked for a gym for a year once I left uni, just because I was a bit unsure as to what I wanted to pursue.
