We're going to pick off now where we left off, actually, in the last interview that we did with Dr. Bradley Thayer, because pretty much we came to the conclusion that there was so much material there, we're going to pick it up again. Before we turn around to dissect the New York Magazine's article, let's discuss your own article, if you wouldn't mind, that you just put out a few days ago in Human Events. I think actually some of the thematic material there is it does sort of pick up a little bit from where we left off on the show. But let's go through it because you make some really quite astonishingly profound arguments. I want to pick up the one. that really caught my attention. I'll read it out and then I'll ask you to break it down and explain what you mean by this.

And I'll work backwards. Let's start on this point. This is, I think, really quite profound. And then we'll work backwards towards the beginning of the article. You mentioned that starting halfway in, American identity has become a battlefield. Identity matters because identity... is the entelechy of the country. Now I had to do a bit of research on that, knowing something, having said a little bit of biblical Greek, rather than classical Attic Greek, a bit of biblical Greek. So entelechy and the preposition, basically in telos, which is the end of something, the purpose of something, and , which is the infinitive of to have, and it's basically the concept of to have a purpose. That's the philosophical concept here.
And this, you know, Steve pioneered this, I think, when he launched the war room, what, five, six years ago. Occasionally, it is necessary to push out terms, complicated terms in Greek, in philosophical terms, to help us analyse everyday political discourse. And you provided the perfect material for that. You know, you don't get this on... M-S-L-O-L. You don't see Morning Mika sitting around there digesting Greek terms, but this is what we do on The War Room. Identity matters because identity is the antelope of the country. I just say it is the purpose, the goal. Just break that down, will you? How did you come to that? What did you mean by it? Especially what do you mean by that in the context of this fight between what you call elsewhere in the article the spirit of 1776 and the spirit of 1917?

Well, the entelechy is really the soul of it. Our identity is for what we're fighting, Ben. America and the spirit of 1776, the recognition of the American Revolution, the American spirit, the importance of political liberalism, and how that folds into Western civilization, because we as Americans are a part of a greater civilization from the West.
