Oh, Betwixtas. Betwixty, Twixty, Twixty, Twixtas. Last year, you really pulled it out of the bag for us. The bag, pockets, wherever you are storing the it, you pulled it out from there. We won the Listener's Choice Awards at the British Podcast Awards last year. Do you remember that? Do you remember that? I certainly remember that. And I mostly remember that because none of us thought that that was ever, ever, ever going to actually happen. And it did.
And it did.
And it was so fabulous because that award came from you guys but it also helped more people find us and it helped boost the show and it just gave us top bragging rights around history hit. But what goes around comes around and the nominations are open once again and now I'm feeling the pressure because it's ours to lose, isn't it? So we are hoping upon hope that you might just help us do this again. So if you have ever smirked, giggled or even, God forbid, learnt something whilst listening to Betwixt the Sheets, then you can vote for us for the Listener's Choice Awards at this year's British Podcast Awards. It'll take 30 seconds of your entire life at the most. Just follow the link in the show notes, search for Betwixt and vote.
And please remember to click on the confirmation email that will come through afterwards. Otherwise, it won't count. And who knows? Maybe we could do it again. Maybe we could be a double winner. Wouldn't that be something? Right, I'll be the show.
Are you planning a trip to London this summer? You may not realise it, but a Roman capital lies right beneath your feet. I'm Tristan Hughes, host of the Ancients podcast, and I want to take you back 2,000 years to Londinium with a new walking audio tour from History Hit. Join me as we chart the rise and fall of Roman London, from the first merchants, to the fires of Boudicca's revolt, to the formidable defences you can still see traces of today. All you need is your smartphone and the Voicemap app. Using your location, it triggers the story automatically so you can keep your phone in your pocket and your eyes on the history as you walk. Download a voice map from your app store or go to voicemap.me slash historyhit.
That's voicemap.me forward slash historyhit.
Hello, my lovely Betwixters. It's me, Kate Lister. Welcome back once again to Betwixt the Sheets. That's me doing jazz hands, but you can't see it because we're still on audio. Welcome back. It's fab to have you here. But because we care about you and your precious, precious feelings, I do have to tell you, this is an adult podcast spoken by adults to other adults about adult things and adult way of covering a range of subjects and you should be an adult too. And that's just to keep your feelings safe. We call that the fair do's warning because if you keep listening and you happen to get upset, well then tough tits because that one was on you. Fair do's, we did tell you. Right, let's crack on.
Good morning, Betwixters. I do appreciate you coming all this way, about 3,000 years in the past, to be precise. It's actually a quiet morning in ancient Greece, down by the harbour in Sparta, but something momentous is happening. Queen Helen is standing on the deck of a boat, watching back towards the shore as she sails off with the Trojan prince, Paris. And that is not her husband. Huh. That's going to piss a few people off. And if there's one group of people you don't want to piss off, it's the Spartans. I think we can all agree on that one. Married queens just aren't supposed to bugger off with their sneaky link. Not now, not never. But did she go willingly? Or was there something more sinister going on in this story?
Either way, it won't be long before whole kingdoms are at war. Heroes will become legends, and luckily for us, it'll all be depicted on the big screen in a film called The Odyssey in the year of our Lord, 2026. So what better time to find out more about Helen's story?
Thank you.
