News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Amy Morris. Ryan Wedding, a former Canadian Olympic snowboarder, has been arrested in Mexico. Wedding is accused of running a drug trafficking operation and orchestrating several killings to further the drug crimes and was on the FBI's 10 most wanted fugitives list. He's being transported to the U.S.
after being caught last night in Mexico, where authorities believe he had been hiding for more than a decade. Much of the U.S. remains on alert for winter storm conditions that could last for days, disrupting travel and threatening blackouts.
At least 170 million people are in the areas likely to be impacted, with the storm expected to bring a mix of freezing rain and snow with heavy ice accumulations. Bloomberg meteorologist Rob Carroll tells us the storm starts today in the southwestern U.S., and that's where it picks up speed.
And then it spreads quickly off towards the east. We're going to see it moving into the mid-Atlantic states by late in the day tomorrow. It's into the New York City area by early Sunday morning and then into Boston Sunday afternoon.
And while many areas will see snow, forecasters warn you need to also prepare for ice, which makes travel hazardous and increases the risk for power outages in sub-freezing temperatures. Prices for electricity and natural gas have surged this week ahead of the storm and remain elevated. Natural gas right now nearly 2 percent higher.

Chapter 2: What recent event involved a former Olympian and the FBI?
Intel's first quarter projections for revenue and earnings both fell well short of Wall Street estimates. While NVIDIA is on the rise and Intel continues to sink, the S&P could see its first back-to-back weekly drop since June as traders shift their focus to the last few economic reports in the run-up to the Fed decision. We check the markets for you all day long here at Bloomberg.
The S&P 500 down 0.1%, NASDAQ up 0.2% and the Dow down 0.8%. The 10-year Treasury yield at 4.26% and the 2-year yield at 3.6%. Silver topped $100 an ounce for the first time, extending a rally built on surging demand for haven assets. Silver now nearly 5% higher. The University of Michigan's final sentiment index for January hit a five-month high.
Bloomberg's Michael McKee reports Americans' views on the economy and their finances are improving.
And we see an improvement in the inflation outlook. The one year now down to 4% from 4.2% and the 5 to 10 at 3.3 down from 3.4. So some good news there.
Bloomberg's Mike McKee. A federal judge says the Trump administration must keep federal funds flowing to child care subsidies and other social service programs in five Democratic-controlled states for now. The Department of Health and Human Services had paused the funding, claiming they had reason to believe the states were granting benefits to people in the country illegally.
Those states say the move was intended to damage Trump's political adversaries. The programs affected include the Child Care and Development Fund, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program, and the Social Services Block Grant, all seen as essential for low-income and vulnerable families. Talks between the U.S., Russia and Ukraine are underway.
The Kremlin says the territorial issue remains unresolved after President Vladimir Putin held talks with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Putin's aide says there's no hope of achieving any long-term settlement until Russia's demands for Ukraine territory are accepted. Talks are expected to continue into Saturday.
The European Union will suspend retaliatory tariffs on 93 billion euro of U.S.

goods for another six months. The suspension can be reactivated at any point should the countermeasures be needed. That's according to spokesperson Olaf Gill. The European Parliament is now expected to unblock the EU's trade deal with the U.S. after President Trump backed down from his threat to impose levies on some EU countries.
