We begin in Mexico, where a top cartel leader known as El Mencho was killed during a raid carried out by Mexican authorities in the western state of Jalisco. The Jalisco cartel is known for trafficking huge quantities of fentanyl and other drugs to the U.S., and the killing of the cartel leader fueled clashes and roadblocks. The governor of Jalisco activated a Code Red, which is a protocol for a state of emergency or security crises. Now, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico issued a security alert urging Americans in the affected areas to shelter in place until further notice. Nearly 40 million people across the U.S. Northeast, including New York City, are under blizzard warnings.
A massive winter storm is threatening snow by the foot. and wind gusts of up to 50 miles an hour. Here is Bloomberg meteorologist Craig Allen.
It is going to be heaviest from about New Jersey and Philadelphia on up towards New York City, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and on up towards Boston. All these areas are under a blizzard warning right through the night tonight and into the mid-afternoon hours on Monday. So knowing that, these are the areas that will have the heaviest snow. They will also have the strongest winds and the lowest visibility. I mean, complete whiteout conditions will be occurring at times from Philadelphia clear on up to New York City and then eventually Boston during the night into tomorrow. That will produce amounts of approximately 12 to 18 inches of snow.
That is Bloomberg meteorologist Craig Allen. An armed man was shot and killed after entering a secured area at President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate. Authorities say the man was carrying a gas can and a shotgun when he was confronted by a sheriff's deputy and two Secret Service agents. Here is Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw.
He was ordered to drop those two pieces of equipment that he had with him. At which time he put down the gas can, raised the shotgun to a shooting position. At that point in time, the deputy and the two Secret Service agents fired their weapons.
Now President Trump was in Washington, D.C. at the time of this incident. Markets in Asia are reacting to the Supreme Court striking down President Trump's use of emergency powers to impose tariffs. The president responded to the defeat by using other powers to impose a global tariff of 15%.

However, these tariffs are limited to 150 days. At the same time, the Trump administration said trade deals made with China, the EU, Japan, and South Korea do remain in place. Here is U.S. Trade Rep. Jameson Greer on CBS Face the Nation.
These deals are going to be good deals. We expect to stand by them. We expect our partners to stand by them. And I haven't heard anyone yet come to me and say, the deal's off. They want to see how this plays out.
