Turkey played that very well in terms of passing messages, being on the sidelines, openly expressing its disapproval. And I think the Turks will be wondering, and the Russians and the Ukrainians, whether Trump is now looking for an easy win in his terms to close the deal in Ukraine so he can at least hold that up when it comes to the midterms a few months hence, or whether he might knuckle down on the U.S. contribution to NATO, given what he's discovered about the limitation of U.S. force in that war in Iran.

This is something President Trump has repeatedly pushed while ordering the Pentagon to cut U.S. troop levels in Europe. Separately, Ukraine said it attacked 16 power substations in Crimea and other Russian-occupied regions over the past 48 hours. In Iran, it is the second day of a massive funeral for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This week-long ceremony is expected to draw millions of mourners and serve as a show of strength for the Islamic Republic. Khamenei was killed by an airstrike at the beginning of the Iran war back in February. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly asked for a meeting at the White House as soon as next week.
Axios is reporting it could happen after President Trump returns from the NATO summit, although an Israeli official said the visit may occur the following week. Now, Trump recently told Axios Netanyahu knows who the boss is in reference to the Iran war. Today, Netanyahu told Fox News he's got an excellent relationship with Trump.

That is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaking earlier to Fox News. Oil and gas shipping along the U.S. protected corridor in the Strait of Hormuz did show signs of recovery on Sunday. Six oil and gas freighters were observed navigating a route along the Omani coastline. Now, this comes a day after a batch of vessels made unexplained U-turns and detours in the strait. Western navies continue to say the threat risk is substantial since the center of the strait is still mined and ships are also trying to avoid the Iranian military. OPEC Plus has agreed to another modest oil quota increase for the month of August. Seven nations led by Saudi Arabia and Russia have agreed to add 188,000 barrels to their daily output target.
Now this increase would be part of OPEC's plan to finish reversing output curbs made just a few years ago. President Trump put himself center stage at Washington, D.C. 's Independence Day celebration. Saturday night, Trump spoke at the National Mall to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. after thunderstorms earlier in the evening delayed the start of his remarks.
