President Trump is saying he does not expect any moves to put guardrails around artificial intelligence during his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The president made the comments in a post on Truth Social this morning. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Besson announced a two-month extension of a trade truce that the U.S. and China agreed to in Switzerland last year. The extension was not as long as many expected, at Philo at Chatham House.
I actually think this plays very much to the U.S. hand. You know, the Chinese administration, the way government works is much more longer term planning. So they had hoped for a longer extension to that trade truce. For the U.S., Trump obviously likes to maintain points of leverage and maintain the opportunity for further negotiations and renegotiations. So two months is not three to six months, as initially stated. But what it does do is it allows him to get through the midterm elections, find out how those go, and see also as the new Congress takes office in January 3rd, at that point, then to take stock and say, okay, where are my points of leverage? What do I want to get out of further negotiations here?
And that's Lindsay Newman at Chatham House. And President Xi's arrival to Washington came with a rare honor, a personal greeting from President Trump on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews. The Chinese leader will get another formal welcome with an arrival ceremony at the White House this morning. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in New York to address the United Nations General Assembly. He plans to meet with several world leaders during his visit. However, there is no meeting with President Trump planned. Oil is surging as Iran threatens to expand the war in the Middle East if the U.S. resumes attacks. And this follows a defiant speech from Iran's president and the first indirect talks in months between the U.S.
and Iran on the sidelines of the U.N.

The Iranians were pretty clear after that meeting between Aragshi and Wyckoff and Kushner that things hadn't changed much. You know, they didn't sort of get too excited in the aftermath of that meeting. They sort of said that all Aragshi did was reiterate Iran's lines, Iran's stance. And, you know, number one on that list pretty much is that the U.S. has to lift its naval blockade of Iran. And then the president yesterday in his U.N. speech did that, too.
And that's Bloomberg's Paul Wallace in Dubai. Taking a look at Brent right now, it is up more than 2% at $105.30 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate is up almost the same at $93.94. Politico says one of its reporters was barred from the White House this morning and their press credentials were confiscated.
