U.S. stocks rallied, reaching a couple all-time highs today in the first trading week of the new year, despite today's weaker jobs data. We'll get to that in just a minute. But first, the Dow added 238 points. The Nasdaq was up 191. The S&P added 44 points. The 10-year Treasury yield was about 4.2 percent. The two-year yields at 3.5 percent. President Trump says $4 billion worth of Venezuelan oil is now on its way to the U.S.,
American companies will have the opportunity to rebuild Venezuela's rotting energy infrastructure and eventually increase oil production to levels never ever seen before.
The president met with about two dozen oil executives to discuss major investments in Venezuela's energy industry.
The plan is for them to spend at least $100 billion to rebuild the capacity and the infrastructure necessary. Venezuela has also agreed that the United States will immediately begin refining and selling up to 50 million barrels of Venezuelan crude oil, which will continue indefinitely. We're all set to do it.
Trump says the U.S. will decide with Venezuela who will get to go in and emphasize those companies will be protected. Now, the U.S. and Venezuelan governments are meeting today in Caracas to explore the possibility of restoring diplomatic relations and reopening the U.S. embassy there. A small team of U.S. diplomats and security officials from the Trump administration arrived today after the president called off a second wave of attacks on Venezuela. Trump citing improved cooperation from the country after some political prisoners were released. Protests in Iran are growing and getting more violent now as more people call for an end to the regime in response to the government cutting internet access across the country.

The fall of Maduro was important because the regime lost its most important global ally. Khamenei had said in 2022 that no two countries were closer to each other than his regime and Venezuela's and really emboldened the opposition.
President Trump has also threatened to intervene in Iran if the government keeps killing protesters. At least 62 people have died there so far. Minneapolis officials say they are outraged state investigators still aren't getting access to any evidence to look into Renee Good's death. Mayor Jacob Fry says he just wants this investigation to be fair.
This is not a time to hide from the facts. This is a time to embrace them, making sure that we're pushing for transparency every step of the way. The Department of Justice and this presidential administration has already come to a conclusion about those facts from the very beginning.
Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent earlier this week, and Homeland Security officials and the Trump administration both say this agent acted in self-defense. Eyewitness accounts, video from the incident, and assessments from Minnesota officials say otherwise. Now on to today's jobs data. Just 50,000 jobs were added to the economy in December.
