News when you want it. With Bloomberg News Now, I'm Doug Krisner. Three American service members have been killed in action during operations against the Islamic Republic. The U.S. Central Command did not say where they were killed or under what circumstances. Five others were seriously wounded. And at the same time, President Trump said the U.S. sank nine Iranian naval vessels. In a post earlier on Truth Social, Trump also said Iran's naval headquarters was destroyed in a separate attack. Now, these developments came during the second day of bombings across Iran. On Saturday, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other senior leaders were killed. This was a watershed moment in the 47-year existence of the Islamic Republic.
Today, President Trump addressed the moment.
Combat operations continue at this time in full force, and they will continue until all of our objectives are achieved.
Now, these actions have drawn criticism from members of Congress, and Democrats are now expected to force a vote this week on war powers. Here is California Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna speaking to NBC's Meet the Press.
It depends if we can keep several Democrats in line, Josh Gottheimer, Congressman Markowitz, folks who have been on the fence. But I believe that this is a disastrous vote for any Democrat to vote for Donald Trump's war in the Middle East. So I hope we will hold the line. And then, like I said, there are a few Republicans who share Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tucker Carlson and others Rand Paul's view, and we've got to make the case to them. It'll be a close vote. Right now I'd say it's 40-60 to pass, but we've got a few days to work on it.

There is a transitional council of the president, the head of judiciary, and one jurist of the guardian council. These three would decide, are in charge right now. and they will actually arrange the election of the new leader.
Arachi went on to say Iran has every right to defend itself. Separately, President Trump told The Atlantic magazine Iran's new leadership wants to speak with him and he's willing to do so. The president is not expecting the attack to disrupt Republican efforts to convince voters that his administration is focused on delivering economic benefits to Americans. A key pressure point for energy flows is the Strait of Hormuz, and vessels began avoiding the strait almost as soon as the conflict began on Saturday. The strait handles about 20% of the world's seaborne oil and a similar proportion of liquefied natural gas. Insurers have said premiums will rise sharply for any vessel that wishes to transit the strait.
Now, Iran has said it has no intention of shutting Hormuz, although on Sunday, Iran did say it attacked three oil tankers over the course of the day.
