Hello, I'm Stephen Carroll. I'm in Brussels, where many of Europe's biggest decisions get made. And I'm Caroline Hepke in London. We're the hosts of the Bloomberg Daybreak Europe podcast. We're up early every weekday, keeping an eye on what's happening across Europe and around the world. We do it early so the news is fresh, not recycled, and so you know what actually matters as the day gets going. From Brussels, I'm following the politics, policy and the people shaping the European Union right now.
And from London, I'm looking at what all that means for markets, money and the wider economy.
We've got reporters across Europe and around the globe feeding in as stories break. So whether it's geopolitics, energy, tech or markets, you're hearing it while it happens. It's smart, calm and to the point. And it fits into your morning. You can find new episodes of the Bloomberg Daybreak Europe podcast by 7am in Dublin or 8am in Brussels, Berlin and Paris on Apple, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts.
News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Doug Krisner. We're getting more details on President Trump's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump said China is willing to support negotiations with Iran. Here is Trump speaking to Fox News Channel's Hannity.
You would like to see a deal made. And he did offer, he said, if I can be of any help at all, I would like to be of help. He did say that. Yeah, he did say that. And look, anybody that buys that much oil has obviously got some kind of a relationship with him. But he said, I would love to be of help. If I can be of any help whatsoever, he'd like to see the hormone straight open. He said, if I could be of any help whatsoever, I would like to help.
That was President Trump speaking to Fox News Channel's Hannity. And in the same interview, the president said China agreed to buy 200 aircraft from Boeing.
200 big ones. That's a lot of jobs. It's a lot. Boeing wanted 150, got 200. Uh... He said, sort of, I think it was a commitment. I mean, you know, sort of like a statement, but I think it was a commitment.
No details about that deal were made available. However, Trump's announcement fell short of the 500 Boeing aircraft Chinese airlines were expected to buy. Shares in Boeing were down today by 4.7%. Now, earlier in the summit, President Xi Jinping warned President Trump that Taiwan could lead to clashes between the superpowers. Xi called it a highly dangerous situation for China and the US. After Trump's meeting with Xi, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US policy on Taiwan is unchanged.
One of the things the Chinese emphasize, which we agree, is strategic stability in our relationship, a constructive relationship, but also one that establishes strategic stability so that we don't have misunderstandings that could lead to broader conflict. And so we always reiterate the point. We hear them when they say this. We always respond by saying anything that would compel or force a change in what we have now would be problematic, and that we would certainly, our policies on that have not changed.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with NBC News. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besson said today the U.S. and China are discussing a mechanism for fast-tracking some Chinese investment deals. Here is Besson speaking to CNBC.
We talked about purchases, we talked about some issues that the Chinese side had, and we're going to talk about forming a board of trade for the bilateral trade between the U.S. and China, and we're going to talk about a board of investment that will be responsible for investment in non-sensitive areas.
That is U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besson speaking to CNBC. The U.S. Supreme Court is allowing a widely used abortion pill to continue being dispensed by mail, at least for now. The high court has put on hold a decision from a federal appeals court that had briefly required patients to make an in-person visit to a provider for access to that pill. Shares in Cerebrus Systems soared 68% on their trading debut.
