Ugly weekend of baseball. The Toronto Blue Jays are not heading into the all-star break with momentum or positive vibes or however you want to chalk it up. Ernie Clement and Nathan Lucas-Homer. Jonathan Glasse comes up big again. But Jeff Hoffman struggles. The running game playing out. The defense playing out again. And then, of course, the walks and balks earlier in the game. So they lose 5-4. As it stands today, heading into the All-Star break, the Blue Jays are 45-51. They are dead last. in the American league East, somehow they're only two and a half games out of a playoff spot still.
So not exactly where you'd want to be right now. And they're down to just 16 games before the trade deadline to kind of make the case that this should be a buy versus a sell or a, At least, well, let's see where it goes kind of thing. There was a lot going on outside of the games this weekend. There was a draft. There was the Futures game. It is the Home Run Derby tonight and the All-Star game tomorrow. So we got a lot to talk about today. We'll talk to John Marossi of MLB Network. We'll talk to Glenn Clemens of Fangraphs. who is in the midst of producing his trade value series for the year. Always one of my favorite things of the year. We'll get you set for the home run during the all-star game a little bit later.

I know you got to pay attention and watch the games, but pretty good Saturday and Sunday to be locked in on the draft in the Futures game instead of in San Diego watching those Blue Jays games.
Yeah, it's always fun, and it's interesting because Major League Baseball changed the order of the draft and the futures game this year. Usually it is the futures game on the Saturday, draft on Sunday, so a little reversal there. But it was an interesting draft, and I still think that day one show that they're trying to get to, like, You know, there's something there, but they haven't thread the needle on it just yet. And the fact that players who were being selected, the top picks, weren't there for the second straight year really takes away from the event. And then you get all this other awkward filler in there. So you've got like some weird journey sing-along in the crowd there. And then it's transitioning to some bad trivia.
Then Rob Manfred getting booed while he makes a pick. you know silly programming like the the concept is good the execution not quite there yet uh and then the futures game is always fun and a lot of players who are in the futures game end up getting to the major leagues relatively quickly some sooner than others including trey savage last year who was in the futures game and a couple months later was pitching in the world series which is a bit of an atypical path but it's certainly an interesting weekend in a number of different ways
Yeah, the draft as a television product is an odd one. NBA and NFL have figured it out, but it requires... you to produce the draft as a tv product not as a you know baseball front office product and have the people there the nba and nfl also have the benefits of you can trade picks in the moment so there's always you know that gives it a little juice and things like that but yeah i don't know how you continue to make it a big event without the players there and then that costs an appearance fee uh and so i don't know it's an odd one um let's talk about the draft then we could talk jay's big picture at the break here maybe a little bit later but um draft the
