What led to the Blue Jays’ 13‑0 loss to the Rays?
Hey, what's going on? Happy Monday. Welcome to J's Talk Plus in our new slash old slash new again time slot, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the rest of the baseball season. Ам Блейк Марфіші з Джулія Кройц, а локі арми! How often do you get to do two consecutive shows talking about a sweep? Oh wait, wrong kind. Yeah. This time.
Yeah. It y you started Friday's show. by saying the blue jays sweep. I think I
just yelled sweep into the microphone.
And I went, What? If you had said the Blue Jays were swept, I would not have said what. I would have said, Yeah, that that sounds about right. That's more like it. Especially against the Tampa Bay Rays. In Florida, there's a lot to talk about, Blake. Not much of it is positive.
No. It was all bad. So I was commentating, uh, as some people might know, I do uh color commentary for a local wrestling company called Smash Wrestling. We had an event at Rec Room yesterday. And it's always funny because a bunch of the the wrestlers and the people who work are Blue Jays fans. Right. So they know that they know what my regular job is. And as I'm prepping, like three thirty is when the event started yesterday. So I've got my laptop up in my little commentary set up uh until three thirty. And multiple wrestlers like as they were coming out, like made little snide comments about the score of the game yesterday. Yeah. Uh it was great. When when the local sports team is giving the bad guy the heel, uh, good material in real time to get heat with the crowd.
That's uh it's always good for the pro wrestling side, it's not good for the baseball side. Yeah.
Yeah, I was gonna ask though, how was the event? I'm sure it was better than than the Blue Jays weekend. Nice to get away from all the losing for a little bit.
Yeah, it's hard to imagine a wrestling event going worse than a sweep where you get out scored nineteen to two over the course of a weekend. Yeah, it was really fun. It was like a single day tournament thing. Shout out to the golden gun Mark Wheeler, who won the twenty twenty five edition of the Northern Tournament. Uh yeah, it was fun. It was also uh friends of mine in Cambridge went to I was not at this show, but there was a charity show at the Kitchener Odd uh on the weekend as well that did well and raised a bunch of money. And and some of my friends from home uh who had never experienced live wrestling before went and had a good time with it and stuff.
You know what? The first time you actually attend is an unforgettable experience. You don't know what you're in for really. You can watch it on TV, you don't know what you're in for uh until you're actually there.
Yeah. Way more fun, up close and live. Yeah. And anyway, uh nice distraction. So w by the time the event started, it was already eight nothing, Tampa Bay. It was in the middle of the like fifth inning when I had to kind of close my laptop and catch up on the rest later. So Let's get into it. The Jays get swept. Again, it was three to one on Friday, three to one on Saturday. Frustrating losses, but Not the kind that necessarily feel like a big deal. They feel like the typical baseball losses that happen. Had you won Sunday, you wouldn't be happy with dropping two of three. But the vibes-wise, the last game of the series is always the most important one. 100%. You'd be carrying that into Texas. Instead, they lay an absolute egg 13 to nothing.
Um I guess kind of the big like if the series had gone normally, probably the biggest thing we'd be talking about today is Just how bad Steinbrenner Field looks and feels from afar and from the reports of players and coaches and media who were there, uh Not a Not a good look for Major League Baseball.
There was a lot that was just weird, right? About uh about how the games went. Clearly, uh no, the lack of of upper decks makes uh makes a big difference. It was very, very hot. You maybe didn't feel it as much on Friday or Saturday because they were evening games and then you're playing at 130 PM on a Sunday and you could see just how drenched Everybody was.
