For those of you familiar with the Potomac River, which I think most Americans know, the Potomac River is right there up against the nation's capital. It flows to the southeast. The river flows to the southeast. And so just to the northwest of the District of Columbia in January, if you go back to January 19th, to be exact,
A six foot wide pipeline burst open, dumping nearly at this point 300 million gallons of raw sewage directly into the Potomac River. And where does it go? Well, right by the nation's capital, the swamp just got a lot swampier over the last month. And we're talking about a lot of raw sewage. It's disgusting. Look at this. Here's local news coverage as the public is being warned to stay away from the contaminated Potomac River after this historic raw sewage spill. Take a look at this. Come on.
A sewage pipeline collapsed, pouring E. coli and staff into the Potomac River. It's a big concern. It's certainly not great for tourism or for anybody wanting to do stuff on the water.
It's horrifying, yeah. And are there any safe levels for those, for anybody? No.
To this point, it is estimated nearly 250 million gallons of sewage have contaminated the river. D.C., Maryland, and most recently, Virginia health and environmental agencies are warning people and pets to stay away from the water.
The EPA and public health recommendation is that swimming is not recommended when E. coli levels are above 410. The levels near the drainage channel continue to exceed that.
By how much? D.C. water sampling says almost 2,000 times higher than safe levels at times.

And the president of the United States last night has finally brought this to not just a local story, but to the nation's attention.
