As she emerged as Sober Mummy, Clare attracted 3 million followers to her blog. There was a gap in the market; most of the books on giving up booze were about the drinking days, not about giving up, how to do it and what to expect in the process. She had given up just before a diagnosis of breast cancer. She didn't feel brave; she believes courage is when you are given a choice about something and cancer wasn't a choice. Instead she felt that her courage came through choosing doing something that scares her, like getting through the day without picking up a glass of wine.
