What is the overall premise of AJ Styles' potential final RAW main event?
Welcome to the Busted Open After Dark podcast. I'm your host, Tommy Dreamer. Did we see the last Monday night raw appearance of AJ Styles going into a massive match against Gunther, career on the line, and I'm gonna talk about it right now. This is the Busted. Podcast. The Go Home Show going into the Royal Rumble. A lot of stuff uh happening, a lot of stuff uh moving towards a Royal Rumble. And uh as always, the Royal Rumble is uh my favorite pay-per-view of all time, always has been, always will be. Um, and uh I look forward to it. Some major announcements which we will cover. But right off the bat, you heard it. Andre the producing giant, he left uh some great sound by And I'm going to get into it. AJ Styles.
Um Man, what a career. Uh I loved I love AJ Styles, right? He was the guy who was what TNA was all about, you know. And uh then he goes to TNA, recreates himself in New Japan, and then ten years ago, I think they said this week, he enters the Royal Rumble 2016. Uh that whole uh Instagram thread of 2016, well hey, you got AJ Styles as an amazing, uh phenomenal surprise at the Royal Rumble, and he's had a wonderful ten year career. Career. Um, with his announcement now being official and you know having the match set up with him and Gunther, it's taken some instrument interesting turns. If you saw Saturday's main event, uh him and Shinsuke Nakamura had a hell of a match. I really, really enjoyed it. Don't know how Shinsuke's still not knocked out from that vicious knee from AJ Styles.
Um and carrying on like it's almost like what John Cena was doing, where he's kind of having these matches that he's wanted to have all throughout the end of his career. Uh opens the show. Wonderful, truthful promo. Um I could listen to AJ Styles talk all day long. He really knows who he is. Um, really knows his character. Uh hell I just saw AJ Styles what? I haven't talked to you guys, uh but was with AJ Styles at the premiere of TNA on AMC. Didn't get a lot to talk about. spend a lot of time with him, but you know, uh I love AJ. He's my friend. He's been my friend for a long, long time. And uh interrupted by CM Punk and just really just a great conversation between two people Excellent uh faces of a company, faces of a brand.
Two guys that go out there and talk, and you really do talk about, like, you know, hey, it's the end of the career, but I want to face you. And uh, we saw that last week with Finn Balor and CM Punk.
How does Tommy Dreamer recap AJ Styles' career from TNA to WWE?
And so the match uh is nicely made. We have a nice thread throughout where also CM Punk says some. nice things to Finn Balor where you're whoa, wait a minute, they turn in Finn Balor, especially after what you saw Last week with uh CM Punk putting him over at the end, which was great, even in their promo, uh Finn Balor acknowledges it. Another nice little Caveat to the story, Liv Morgan's like, yo, what's up? 'Cause she's over here and stuff. Um Finn's being torn and pulled both ways, right? Then he goes to Adam Pierce, and Adam Pierce, who's not having the best days of his life, um goes up to Finn goes up town pierce and he's like, Hey, I want a spot in the rumble and oh by the way, the rumble is full.
What do you mean the Royal Rumble is full? We got 30 people and only 15 people are announced at that moment. We haven't even announced it, but I get he has an agenda. He's got paperwork. He's got a lot of stuff. Adam Pierce is one of the busiest general managers going right now. Um, so with that being said, uh we have the match. A great main event. Uh again, another sold out Toronto. You never disappoint. One of the best wrestling cities. Um The match, the pacing, they told a nice story. Um, they really did here's my hardest part about saying goodbye to AJ. And even uh Michael Cole did a great job. Corey Graves did an amazing job of literally talking about like the early grounds of AJ Styles from a a company called NWA Wild Side.
Um Which is very, very obscure a reference, but that's where he started. Uh a little indie outside of Georgia that actually got some TV. Bill Barns was uh running it for a while and then, you know, he he just works his way up because he was that he actually AJ Styles was like under a developmental deal in WCW.
