Hey guys, this is Denise Salcedo with Tommy Dreamer, and welcome to the Busted Open Podcast. To kick off the show, Tommy and I react to Drew McIntyre defeating Cody Rhodes to become the new undisputed WWE champion. This is the Busted Open Podcast.
Not a good day to be uh a Cody Rhodes fan.
Well, you know whose day it is for sure today? Drew McIntyre fans everywhere. Sucking Dave LaGrecca. I am a Drew McIntyre fan, and I could not be happier to wave the flag of Drew McIntyre today. Tommy, I since last night's SmackDown, I have been reeling with euphoric excitement. You name it. Uh I'm feeling damn Good. You know, it's been a while, I feel, since I have felt like coming off of a show, I thought, yes, yes, this is exactly what I wanted. This is exactly what they had to do. I feel like lately everybody's been doing opposite of what I want them to do. And this time they actually gave us a surprise to the point, Tommy, where I'm a Drew McIntyre fan. I've been wanting to see Drew McIntyre. win the title.
And I thought to myself, he's not gonna win. This isn't gonna happen. And because I thought that it wasn't gonna happen, that I didn't even let my hopes up climb at all for the possibility of it to happen.
Wow, that's a lot. Well, I'll tell you where I was very much surprised, the fans booing Cody. Uh especially in Germany, every time he popped up on the screen. They boot him. And I was just like, get out of town. Like, how did this happen? It was almost for me overnight because I've I'm up to date on SmackDown, and I actually watched SmackDown yesterday and finished it today from last week. And I was just like, Man, that was a nice heated angle. Um, everything they do to set this up, and then the UK, which is usually so appreciative of the good. Good guys and the bad guys, and it's you know, Drew's not from Germany, so that was not that. Then I was just like, Man, the fans just turned on Cody, and that sucks because he's a hard working champion.
Um, and if it's card subject to change, right, in the sense of if you're booing the guy you're supposed to cheer. Then I'm like, uh, maybe you want to make the switch. Everybody showing the emotion of everybody wants his title, his good friend Matt Cardona, um, good guys, bad guys all telling him ra his, you know, his mentor, Randy Orton, I want that title shows the pressure of being the champ. And uh then the result is you have after a really good not one Not two, but three matches. Drew McIntyre wins uh the title. An interesting thing for me too is literally when they were doing like exchange punches and they're cheering Drew and they're booing Cody, and then they started uh a Cody sucks chant, like kind of how John Cena was.
And I'm like, get the hell out of here, Germany. What happened? Like I don't know. You I watch SmackDown as a fan, you have to study it with different hosts. Your thoughts.
So when you talk about the reaction to Cody Rhodes, there's multiple things here. First of all, I've noticed that whenever we are in an international crowd, they sometimes tend to go in different directions when it comes to reactions, right? Like they they I remember for a perfect example that I can think of, Bianca Belair. I love Bianca Belair. She's my favorite woman's wrestler. When she was out there overseas, I remembered.
How did the crowd react to Cody Rhodes and why were fans booing him?
They were booing the living hell out of her. And I'm thinking, okay, she's not a heel. She hasn't done anything heelish, but the people were, I guess, just over her being a babyface at that time. So they started to boo her and rile up against her. So they were literally cheering whoever else was in the ring with her. And that was kind of an example that I can think of where the crowd was starting to maybe see, you know, I. I I feel like a lot of times there is this conversation around what people think online versus what you see in the buildings. And a lot of the times, I sometimes, and this doesn't happen all the time, but most of the times, when we are seeing like American crowds and American audiences, I feel like there's this huge disconnect between what you see, how the crowd reacts on on the TV.
