What was the hosts’ first impression of TNA’s debut on AMC?
You're listening to the Busted Open Podcast. It's Robin Lundberg here with Bishop Dyer, and we are reacting to the first night of TNA on AMC, the good, the bad, and everything in between. It's here on the Busted Open Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. How would you sum up the first impression of TNA on AMC?
Uh, you know, I mean god, we're gonna dive into a lot of topics with T and A tonight, so it's hard to To say I I'm just excited that They have a T V deal and I'm excited to see where they take it. And last night was step one. Um, you can tell that it's been a hot minute since they've done live T V and there's a few things that, you know, I'm sure we'll get into that I would have changed, would have done differently. But what do I know? I'm I'm the asshole on uh Friday morning talking about it, doing the armchair Q V. So It's just my opinions, but I'm just super stoked. Um Last night as I was sitting down on the couch to watch it, uh, flipping on YouTube TV and seeing T and A having a T V deal made me excited.
Um and even when the show ended You know, I I'm excited to see where it goes. It's a great starting point and um I'm excited for all the talent in that locker room and and those owners and you know Everybody for AMC to Have this and and run with it.
Well, yeah, I mean, look, there's the macro perspective, which is how good it is for the business, right? Like, you know, Pro Wrestling Nation 24-7 speaks to it, right? Like you get to talk about these shows. There, there's wrestling basically every day. There's more than just WWE, obviously AEW and now TNA and NXT and so on and so forth. Uh, and AMC putting it on on broadcast TV is is a huge deal. So I would agree with that, but you know, pull pulling that back to the micro, I have to say, you know, I I think there were some issues with the show. I mean, I I think from a presentation standpoint, there were some issues with, you know, the look and and production.
How did the macro perspective of a TV deal affect the show’s overall impact?
And then there were some issues from, you know Here's a good one. Why why is the main event angle happening after you're off the air? Right? Like you want to hook people and bring them back to your show. So I thought the main event was pretty good, because Arian and Santana, but then you know, all the other stuff with with Dario Ray and and Nick Nemeth and setting up the pay-per-view happens after the show. You know, that's what you're supposed to do to sell new viewers and and stuff like Like that just didn't make sense to me.
Yeah, there was a little thing and I think You know, having time to digest the entire show last night. I think and there's a ton of positives. Like we can get into the million positives. Obviously, we're gonna start here where we're gonna get into a little bit, but I think for me when you look at T and A, it's total nonstop action wrestling. Literally by definition what it stands for. And I think my biggest issue with last night is we got three matches. in two hours of television. We were And I was texting with some buddies who were watching it as well. And I'm gone. We're like an hour and ten minutes into the show and we've had one match. And if I'm a casual viewer who's viewing this for the first time, seeing these stars.
I can promise you they were flipping channels for so many long promos of people that they don't know who they are. And I think for TNA, like going into last night, what what's your train of thought? Are you going to say, Look, we are gonna present This show like today is day one. We're starting everything over. Aside from maybe a big main event title match. Let's introduce these characters. to the people who are tuning in on AMC for the first time and let's do it through cool video packages on who each individual is versus these group promos where you may or may not know a single person. And so for you to sit there and watch a six or seven minute promo Um It's difficult when you don't know who they are. Where you can watch
a six or twelve or fifteen minute match with talent, you don't know who they are because it's exciting. It's fun.
