Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
What's good, everybody? Welcome in to the Busted Open After Dark podcast. Night two of WrestleMania is in the books.
Chapter 2: What were the highlights of WrestleMania 42 Night Two?
Me and our fearless leader, Dave LaGreca, chopped it up and talked about every single match on the card. This is the Busted Open podcast. Last night, you and I were a little conflicted about the main event. Last night, I think tonight you and I both can agree that is what a WrestleMania main event is supposed to look like. Good evening, sir.
I mean, that was a WrestleMania card top to bottom tonight as opposed to what we saw last night. I think you and I both agreed overall night number one was weak. Night number two, completely different story.
It really was. Let's start right there with the main event because it was a very quick night. I was looking at the clock going, wait a second, it's only 8.30. They were only two and a half hours in when they started the package for the main event, but it was obvious to me that they wanted to let it play out. It was a full hour. It was theatrical. I thought both guys never got gassed.
They never got tired to me, but the way they sold the fatigue I thought was amazing. What did you make of the match itself?
I think it's one of the best WrestleMania main events I've seen in a very long time. I think it's a classic. I think it's going to go down as one of the best ever. And I love the theme of what we saw, Coach, because it was what Roman said. Hey, Punk, you're old. And what did it come down to? The fatigue. CM Punk couldn't get him up for that last GTS.
And I think that's going to be the theme coming out that, hey, man, just like I said, you're too old to do this anymore. You ran out of gas. I didn't. I hit you with the spear. One, two, three. Roman's your champion. And now we could see if they could capture that magic of Roman Reigns as champ as they were able to do three years ago.
So a couple of things that I saw on social media that I want to hit you with, because to me, details matter. And at one point in the match, Roman Reigns used the steel stairs literally as the referee is looking right at him. And a lot of people were like, how in the world... was Roman Reigns not disqualified right at that moment. This was not a no DQ. It wasn't a street fight.
It was none of that.

Chapter 3: How did the main event between CM Punk and Roman Reigns unfold?
Do you think they may use that for CM Punk moving forward as an excuse that he can use or a reason of why he lost?
I don't think if you're CM Punk, you can use any excuses. Yeah, I just don't think that character fits that type of mold. So I just don't see it. You're right, though. I mean, here is a championship match. I'm actually interested to hear what Bully has to say about this tomorrow morning on Busted Open because he talked about Seth and Gunther and the one thing that really bothered him.
was the lack of the credibility of the referee in that match. But you had the same kind of story here, but just the backdrop was so different, I didn't really have a problem with it at all.
I thought the reason it was so great, you guys are listening to the after show, Dave LaGreca and the coach here on Pro Wrestling Nation 24-7. About 30 minutes in. I don't know how you felt, but to me, a great main event is one that I don't know who is going to win. And there were so many great false finishes. I was like, I can make a reason for either guy to go over.
They decided to give it to Roman. And I think one of the things we talk about with Roman is if he's going to be a champion, how much is he going to be there to be that champion? How much do you think they've talked to him about? If we're going to do this, then we need you solid. For the next four to five months.
You have to. This can't be a repeat of the last time we see him once every three months. If you're the champion, you have to defend that championship. So I think he needs to be present. I think he needs to be there. I would be disappointed if he's somebody that's just an attraction. If he's just an attraction, he can't put championship gold around his waist.
That's exactly right. That's exactly how I feel. All right, let's move on now to the other big news of the night, and that is Brock Lesnar. And I thought tonight we got two things out of that match. A, they started it off. It was 3 o'clock in the afternoon local time, and I was worried, Dave, that there wouldn't be everybody in their seats. My God, that place was full at the jump.
Did you happen to watch the video of Obafemi's entrance? Instead of watching him, did you watch the crowd? This dude is so over right now that I love the decision to allow him to win tonight because we can fast forward his growth because, to me, he's ready with the crowd.
It's lightning in the bottle. He is definitely lightning in the bottle. It would have been such a big mistake, Coach, if they would have had Brock go over. And obviously we know that wasn't going to be the plan anyway because what happened after the match ā it's very rare you get something like what we saw tonight with Oba Femi.

Chapter 4: What did the hosts think about the pacing of Night Two?
I think I sent maybe one tweet during the entire show because I was just caught up in it. I was around our crew, and I was up on my feet. I was yelling and screaming. It was like I was 15 years old again. I love it. That was the gift that night two of WrestleMania gave me.
Look at me.
I got the WrestleMania 42 jersey on. I got the merch. I don't care. You want to call me a mark? I could care less. Tonight was really, really special because I'm sure you feel this way too, Coach, where it's like, What am I doing here? Like, what's going on here? This isn't the business that I fell in love with. This isn't the business where it was when I first got started.
Like, what is going on? I mentioned last night to you that it felt like a corporate feel. Like, hey, when you get the prices as high as they are, you're marking out, you're pricing out those true hardcore fans. Tonight, even the feel in the building, it just felt like an old-school pro wrestling crowd. Tonight was truly special, and I think the main event was a reflection of that.
I've always hated when people refer to WrestleMania as Super Bowl because Super Bowl is all corporate. All corporate. Yeah, half the seats will go to the corporate sponsors. That's never been what Vince McMahon wanted us to be. I learned from him, and... I don't care if people say, why do you talk about him? He was my boss for 12 years, 13 years. He was the guy who created WrestleMania.
And WrestleMania was supposed to be a celebration of pro wrestling. And we've gotten away from that. And I think what you're talking about for night number two is tonight. And it wasn't like the matches were that much longer. But last night, that was a big story. You're talking seven minutes, eight minutes, nine minutes. That's not a WrestleMania match for any of them.
And I felt like tonight with having just the six, and not as many commercials, that it went a lot smoother, and I felt like they all got time. I felt like they got time. But I felt like the ones that needed to go fast, Trick and Sammy, you didn't need that to go long. You needed to change the title. They did that.

Chapter 5: What impact does Roman Reigns' championship reign have on the WWE?
Rhea and Jade. I feel bad for Jade, Dave, but I just don't think she's at the level that she needs to be to carry the company as a champion. And they fixed that tonight, too. So I liked a lot of the decisions they made tonight in addition to the really good wrestling that we got that we did not get last night.
Coach, you make a great point. Last night felt like each match was rushed. Like they didn't have time to complete the story. It just felt like, why are we moving so fast? And then you really felt those commercial breaks, too, because it felt like the commercial breaks were as long as the matches were last night, up until the main event. Up until the main event, it felt like it was ridiculous.
Tonight, the entrances felt...
more special than they did last night and the matches felt more special and like you're right like i'm looking at the clock i'm like oh my god they got so much time but when you go down to it they gave each match the time especially the main event i i it was perfect i i really did enjoy this second night and this might be the best night of wrestlemania maybe since wrestlemania 30.
Boy, 12 years ago. 12 years ago.

Chapter 6: What made Oba Femi's victory over Brock Lesnar significant?
Yes. I think you might be right. And maybe they walked in a room and they said, listen, we're going to listen to the fans from last night and fix a few things tonight. Now, I will say the one thing that I absolutely hated. Because of where they put it in the card, and I'm just not a fan, I don't like it, I don't get it, is the Dan Housen nonsense.
And they put it right between Rhea and Jade and before the main event that I was starving for. And I was like, I don't need this seven or eight minutes with midgets and Dan Housen and Miz and Cena did the best that they could. But, Dave, I hope they didn't sign him to a long-term contract because that gimmick is going to get real old real fast, in my opinion.
Well, Coach, I got to tell you, Danhausen is over, man. And I'm serious. Like, Doug Moorman, our VP here at SiriusXM, I was with him, and his kids go crazy for Danhausen. My daughter, the one thing she asked for was a Danhausen T-shirt. Seriously. Dude, I'm telling you ā The most shirts that I saw in the crowd tonight at WrestleMania were Dan Housen shirts. He is over.
Now, listen, Coach, I get it. It's not for us. But I'd rather have that entertainment separated from the wrestling. Like the Pat McAfee involvement.
Chapter 7: How did the crowd react to Oba Femi's entrance and match?
He's involved in the main event of WrestleMania. Hey, we got Dan Hazard. Let's put him in a segment with the host of WrestleMania, John Cena, and with The Miz. He's a goof anyway. So let's put him in a segment special here on WrestleMania. And I think it clicked. I think it worked. At least it worked with the live crowd tonight.
Don't get him involved in the actual wrestling or the matches that are taking place. I'm completely fine with it. Again, Coach, it's not for us, but there is a whole generation of wrestling fans that absolutely love Dan Housen.
Still to come, me and Dave continue our look at night number two that, let's be honest, was a lot better than night number one. We'll be right back. Tomorrow is going to start something new. Tomorrow is going to be a line in the sand. I think we're going to see a lot of changes. I think some could be good.
I think some are going to be a little painful based off of everything that we've gone through the last three months. What I hope that they stop doing is NXT can no longer be a brand where they say this is important to us. What I mean by that is if you have talent ready to come up to the main roster, we saw tonight Oba, Trick, Javon. They were three of the bright spots of WrestleMania.
So anybody that says, hey, they weren't ready or the lights are too bright, nonsense. And so if I have other guys down there and other girls down there, I'm sorry to the OGs, Dave. I want more of that because these three, they show the world they are ready.
Now, are those other talents ready? I don't know, but I didn't know about Oba. Yeah, you did not know. So as long as the story is right, and obviously they had the stories right for Trick and for Oba. They had the perfect stories for them on their way up. That's up to creative. That's creative's job, right, is to put them in the best position to succeed.
I always remember Jimmy Johnson, former coach of the Cowboys. His job was to make sure he put the playmakers in the position to make plays. That's what creative needs to do here. Make sure they give them the best opportunity to succeed on the main roster. And you just gave three examples that are working perfectly here.
So if people are clicking with the audience, then it's time to recycle them out and get people from NXT to fill those spots.
I think I go back to the interview that Triple H did on one of the podcasts where he admitted that if Cody Rhodes goes down, we don't have another Cody Rhodes. And that was alarming to me that he would admit that. And now that we've made it through WrestleMania, and I think that this was like the finish line they were just trying to get to.
