What is the main topic of the episode?
Welcome to the Busted Open podcast. This is Dave LaGreca. On today's episode, myself and Bully Ray talk Monday Night Raw, and we're going to get round two in Italy, Obafemi and Brock Lesnar. What did we think of the setup? We discuss right now on the Busted Open podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. Paul Heyman in the ring addressing the WWE Universe. Crowd was hot. Heyman was hot because of everything that's been happening with Brock Lesnar. Paul Heyman, and good job by WWE because when Paul Heyman mentioned Brock and then pointed towards the entrance ramp, you see everybody get up on their feet because they all think Brock is going to come out. It's a video package. Good job of completely cutting off the mic of the arena because I'm sure everybody in that arena was booing when they realized Brock wasn't coming out.
But what did you think of, first and foremost, the message from Brock Lesnar in that video package last night?
I thought it was decent.
How effective was the setup for Brock vs. Oba 2 on Raw?
I liked the fact that Brock put Oba over in the beginning of the message. But there was a part of the entire segment that I really liked, and there was a part of the segment that I really didn't like. And the part that I didn't like was so small, but it was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Now, maybe it was just me. But let me take the tail end first, Dave. Did any part of what was done or said in that segment take you out of the moment, take you out of the segment, leave a bad taste in your mouth?
I don't know if I'm going to say bad taste, but it left me a little puzzled. And that was the final line by Oba when referring to Brock. When he says, I'm not fighting to beat him.
What did Paul Heyman say about Brock Lesnar's return?
I'm fighting to kill him. Wow.
Close enough. It didn't leave a bad taste in your mouth, whatever. But that line resonated with you, right? Yes. When Oba Femi said, kill him, they lost me. Professional wrestling. Nobody's killing anybody. Nobody's ever... Has anybody tried to kill somebody in wrestling? Well, I mean...
Hurt, maim, blah, blah, blah. The Death Riders put a plastic bag over Brian Daniels' head.
Okay, there's a good example. But is Oba Femi going to really try to kill Brock Lesnar? Is anybody in world wrestling entertainment going to try to kill anybody? No. And I want you to go back and listen to the crowd. When Obafemi says, kill him, there's almost like this immediate hush that comes over the arena. Not like shock, just hush like, kill him? I did not like the use of the word kill him. But I thought that he was going to say destroy him or whatever because I'm going to rule him. I'm going to destroy him. I'm going to finish him. Something like that. But kill him completely took me out of the promo. And it's close enough that you mentioned it.
No, it definitely hit me because it's, you know, what we say. You always say, Bully, when the baby face guarantees something in a promo.
What was the audience's reaction to Brock Lesnar's video package?
Well, if the baby face is going to guarantee it, then it's got to happen. He just said guarantee. Now, obviously, Oba didn't use the word guarantee, but he used the word kill. Now, like you said, he's not going to kill him. Is he going to kill the persona, the myth of Brock Lesnar? Maybe. Okay. But I'm with you. That word being used was a misstep for me. Misstep. No doubt.
Here's what I did like about the promo, and I jotted it down in my notes from last night. Dave, there are certain movies out there in which there's a scene where – one of the the good guys actually it could be a bad guy too but one of the guys kills a bunch of other people but lets one person live.
What did Oba Femi mean by 'I'm fighting to kill him'?
So that person can go back and tell everybody else about who the person is that did all of the destruction. We leave somebody alive on purpose to go back and tell the tale of why you shouldn't screw with this person. And that's what I liked about that Oba promo was he said, no, Paul, I'm not gonna hurt you because I need you to stick around. I need you to tell everybody about what Obafemi has done and will do to Brock Lesnar. I like that as a way to get out of as why Oba got so close to Paul but never really physically met.
