Chapter 1: What is the main topic of the episode?

0.031 - 30.658 Dave LaGreca

Welcome to the Busted Open podcast. This is Dave LaGreca. On today's episode, myself and Bully Ray talk Monday Night Raw, and we're going to get round two in Italy, Obafemi and Brock Lesnar. What did we think of the setup? We discuss right now on the Busted Open podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. Paul Heyman in the ring addressing the WWE Universe. Crowd was hot.

0

31.42 - 54.73 Dave LaGreca

Heyman was hot because of everything that's been happening with Brock Lesnar. Paul Heyman, and good job by WWE because when Paul Heyman mentioned Brock and then pointed towards the entrance ramp, you see everybody get up on their feet because they all think Brock is going to come out. It's a video package.

0

55.251 - 74.058 Dave LaGreca

Good job of completely cutting off the mic of the arena because I'm sure everybody in that arena was booing when they realized Brock wasn't coming out. But what did you think of, first and foremost, the message from Brock Lesnar in that video package last night?

0

74.659 - 76.662 Bully Ray

I thought it was decent.

Chapter 2: How effective was the setup for Brock vs. Oba 2 on Raw?

76.822 - 108.017 Bully Ray

I liked the fact that Brock put Oba over in the beginning of the message. But there was a part of the entire segment that I really liked, and there was a part of the segment that I really didn't like. And the part that I didn't like was so small, but it was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Now, maybe it was just me. But let me take the tail end first, Dave.

0

108.418 - 118.778 Bully Ray

Did any part of what was done or said in that segment take you out of the moment, take you out of the segment, leave a bad taste in your mouth?

0

119.419 - 132.495 Dave LaGreca

I don't know if I'm going to say bad taste, but it left me a little puzzled. And that was the final line by Oba when referring to Brock. When he says, I'm not fighting to beat him.

0

Chapter 3: What did Paul Heyman say about Brock Lesnar's return?

132.835 - 135.338 Dave LaGreca

I'm fighting to kill him. Wow.

0

138.962 - 168.278 Bully Ray

Close enough. It didn't leave a bad taste in your mouth, whatever. But that line resonated with you, right? Yes. When Oba Femi said, kill him, they lost me. Professional wrestling. Nobody's killing anybody. Nobody's ever... Has anybody tried to kill somebody in wrestling? Well, I mean...

0

168.511 - 175.661 Dave LaGreca

Hurt, maim, blah, blah, blah. The Death Riders put a plastic bag over Brian Daniels' head.

0

175.682 - 208.761 Bully Ray

Okay, there's a good example. But is Oba Femi going to really try to kill Brock Lesnar? Is anybody in world wrestling entertainment going to try to kill anybody? No. And I want you to go back and listen to the crowd. When Obafemi says, kill him, there's almost like this immediate hush that comes over the arena. Not like shock, just hush like, kill him? I did not like the use of the word kill him.

0

210.293 - 230.023 Bully Ray

But I thought that he was going to say destroy him or whatever because I'm going to rule him. I'm going to destroy him. I'm going to finish him. Something like that. But kill him completely took me out of the promo. And it's close enough that you mentioned it.

230.003 - 240.837 Dave LaGreca

No, it definitely hit me because it's, you know, what we say. You always say, Bully, when the baby face guarantees something in a promo.

Chapter 4: What was the audience's reaction to Brock Lesnar's video package?

241.198 - 270.176 Dave LaGreca

Well, if the baby face is going to guarantee it, then it's got to happen. He just said guarantee. Now, obviously, Oba didn't use the word guarantee, but he used the word kill. Now, like you said, he's not going to kill him. Is he going to kill the persona, the myth of Brock Lesnar? Maybe. Okay. But I'm with you. That word being used was a misstep for me. Misstep. No doubt.

0

270.277 - 296.202 Bully Ray

Here's what I did like about the promo, and I jotted it down in my notes from last night. Dave, there are certain movies out there in which there's a scene where – one of the the good guys actually it could be a bad guy too but one of the guys kills a bunch of other people but lets one person live.

0

Chapter 5: What did Oba Femi mean by 'I'm fighting to kill him'?

297.023 - 322.482 Bully Ray

So that person can go back and tell everybody else about who the person is that did all of the destruction. We leave somebody alive on purpose to go back and tell the tale of why you shouldn't screw with this person. And that's what I liked about that Oba promo was he said, no, Paul, I'm not gonna hurt you because I need you to stick around.

0

322.462 - 348.921 Bully Ray

I need you to tell everybody about what Obafemi has done and will do to Brock Lesnar. I like that as a way to get out of as why Oba got so close to Paul but never really physically met. hurt him or put his hands on him. And Dave, what are some good examples of movies in which we've seen that before?

0

349.161 - 375.296 Dave LaGreca

Well, I mean, the biggest one for me is Usual Suspects. When he comes back to his house and there's a gang in his home and they had just assaulted his wife and his son is there and the wife is holding his son. And he takes out each and every member of that gang, including his wife and his son, and leaves one person alive and says, go back and tell them what you saw today.

0

375.316 - 404.29 Dave LaGreca

And then we see him leaving his home and he burns his house down because he wants everyone to know that there's nothing you could possibly do to penetrate this guy. Nothing. He's indestructible. Nothing. And that's kind of like with Oba. Like, you would think that Oba would be a little bit rattled. He thought he retired Brock Lesnar. Now Brock Lesnar is right back in his face. But no.

0

404.31 - 432.605 Dave LaGreca

And you have Paul Heyman actually saying, please, God, no. Please, God, no. And Boba's like, I'm not going to touch you. I'm not going to hurt you. Just go back and tell Brock the way you felt today. First of all, I loved... the video package from Brock Lesnar. And, and the reason I loved it because he openly said, you beat me and I retired like the way you beat me.

432.786 - 445.078 Dave LaGreca

I took a beating enough for me to say, you know what? I quit, but I can't go out like that. I can't go out like that because I can take a beating, but Oba, can you take a beating?

445.739 - 458.865 Bully Ray

So what was, what was, we talked about this last week, uh, What did I say happened to Brock in the month that he was away? What happened? He just did what? He changed his mind.

459.976 - 482.198 Dave LaGreca

That was it. I changed my mind. Yes. In the moment, as a warrior, as we've seen with warriors, you know, we've seen movies too where a warrior will take their own life because they lost the battle. Brock lost the battle that he totally expected he was going to win. He lost. And in that moment, he let emotions get the best of him, and he quit. He retired.

482.618 - 509.811 Dave LaGreca

But now in this month away, he was like, listen, I've taken beatings before. I've been counted out before. I got to step up and challenge Oba face-to-face. Even though it was like a, I don't know, a two-minute video package, in that two minutes, I think Brock did enough explaining where I'm like, okay, I can buy into this match. I can buy into him retiring, and I can buy into him coming back.

Chapter 6: How do Dave and Bully Ray analyze Oba's promo strategy?

1170.617 - 1187.46 Bully Ray

Let them cheer, let them boo. Because the clock will strike midnight. A new day will come. And we'll be past whatever they were chanting the night before. Who cares? That's really the psychology of it.

0

1187.881 - 1203.476 Dave LaGreca

I'm just saying that I would think that Minnesota would be pro-Brock. That's where he's from. This is maybe the last time we'll ever see Brock Lesnar in a wrestling ring. It's going to be an interesting dynamic if that's where they go after Clash in Italy this weekend.

0

1203.796 - 1232.41 Bully Ray

If they are pro-Brock... In Minnesota, if this is what's going to happen. And they get to the end of the match, and there is a powerbomb from Obafemi through 19 tables, and Brock loses, and the referee counts to 10, and Brock can't get up. which is a good, you know, it's like a good foreshadowing of you couldn't make it to your feet, thus your career cannot continue. Boom.

0

1232.43 - 1268.332 Bully Ray

And then when they have, and then Oba, when the beast is finally destroyed and not even Brock Lesnar can get to his own feet because he has been decimated by Oba Femi, who helps Brock Lesnar up to his feet? Paul Heyman? Or Oba. Wrong. Oba Femi. The only person who can pick Brock Lesnar up is the man that put him down. The warrior that put him down.

0

1269.093 - 1299.887 Bully Ray

And now Oba Femi, let's just say, takes a table, he throws it away. This piece of table throws it away. This piece of whatever throws it away. And Oba Femi is standing over Brock Lesnar. and Obafemi reaches down and helps Brock Lesnar to his feet. If anybody in that arena hated Obafemi up until that moment, they are loving Obafemi for the sign of respect. That's warrior shit.

1299.907 - 1330.15 Bully Ray

One of the things, let's put a pin in that, that's warrior shit. One of the things that I loved about the way they went off the air on Raw last night And I don't remember seeing this in the other tribal combat match. So forgive me if I missed something. But I loved the handshake and the head-to-head with Roman and Jacob. In the other tribal combat match, did we get that scene?

1330.19 - 1331.452 Dave LaGreca

No, no, no.

1331.632 - 1364.424 Bully Ray

So last night, that was the first time we've ever seen that scene? Yes. I fucking loved it. Because now tribal combat has... has some meaning. We are family, we are blood, but we are about to kill each other. But before we kill each other, we will show each other a sign of respect for those who came before us and set the rules for tribal combat.

1364.704 - 1394.336 Bully Ray

So with all the animosity between Jacob and all of the animosity with Roman and the tongue and death grip and everything that they said and done, blah, blah, blah, how do we go into this? We go into this with a handshake, with our heads together as family. And Roman with his eyes closed as if he was praying in that moment. That put tribal combat into perspective for me and what it meant.
