Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Hello, my friend, and welcome to Catch Up with Louise McSharry. This is the podcast where I do my best to keep you caught up with what's going on in the world on Monday We Do News, on Wednesday Entertainment, and on Friday Reality Television. And if I sound like I'm speaking slightly quietly, it's because it is 10 to 10 p.m.
because your fave podcaster has once again been burning the candle at every end. This summer is bananas. I was at Robin last night, as I know were many of you, and... If you know me, you know Robin's my girl. I've seen her, I think last night was my sixth time to see her live, which was just so good. It was incredible.
And it was also amazing just to be there with every single gay person in Dublin over the age of 35 and really enjoyed that aspect of it. But it was truly such an incredible gig. And then obviously, as I'm sure you know, at this stage, she brought out CMAT at the end to sing Call Your Girlfriend. And that was, I mean, everybody just went insane. The place basically lifted off the ground.
It was incredible. But I, you know... I could have done without that night, given the day that I had today, because I have just been working, working, working, working, working. And so, yeah, this is the time that it is when I'm recording. But I'm very happy to be recording because I've got a lot to say about this week's reality television. I think we should start with the news.
And the news from the world of reality TV is varied. There's a lot going on. And I suppose first we should start with a terribly sad bit of news about Coming out of Ladies of London, apparently there is no season two. I've heard rumors that this is because of legal action that one of the cast members is taking against the network and the production company. I'm not sure if that's true.
Apparently there was a member of the cast who was not happy with her edit and that led to them not renewing it. Could be absolute nonsense, but that's the rumor flying around the internet all I'm so disappointed. I thought it was really good. I thought it was really fun.
And when a video of my beloved Martha Sitwell came up on my Instagram of her crying, I had the sound down and assumed that she was crying because the show was not being renewed. But no, her pet magpie, Hegarty, you'll remember if you watch the show. Drowned in the bath. This is like absolutely terrible. She said, I'm so sorry, everybody. I've got the worst news to share with you all.
Hegarty died yesterday. She's crying. She says she drowned and she was always so cautious about water. I'll play you a little clip here. But yeah, absolutely heartbreaking. Heartbreaking.
Hegarty died yesterday. She drowned. She was normally so cautious about water. And there was a tarp I'd left outside that was too deep. It was right next to our bath. I don't understand where she went in it. And it was a momentary lapse of concentration.

Chapter 2: What recent news impacted the reality TV landscape?
So I'm glad we got to the bottom of that. Other than that, that's the kind of main news. Oh, I also really enjoyed Portia Williams from The Real Housewives of Atlanta on Z-Way. Z-Way is so brilliant and Portia is a match for her. She was really funny, really, really funny. And I thought this clip was particularly funny when Z-Way was asking Portia about being a late in life queer person.
Although I think Portia has said she doesn't particularly adopt a label. She is in a relationship with a woman at the moment. And she basically said she's always just loved people. You know, I guess what she's describing would be most consistent with pansexuality.
But she said she always knew that she kind of liked girls, that she would have had girlfriends or girls who she kind of had stuff with when she was even a teenager. But yeah, anyway, Ziwe posed an interesting question.
On the show, you said that being gay was the worst kept secret. Tell me about the last man you dated and what did he do to turn you gay?
So I wasn't turned gay by anybody. Yeah, I'm just attracted to who I'm attracted to. Yeah, I actually think that might be a bit homophobic of people to think that you have to be turned. Not you, you're asking a question. Who wrote them? Did you write?
They were. It's satire.
Now, I think I'm going to start with Love Island. I mean, the first thing I want to say is, is anybody else watching on the Virgin Media Player? And is anyone else being absolutely haunted by that Tampax ad? Tampax saved the vibe last night. Is the song. Have you heard this? Tempt back, save my vibe last night. It just, it's making me want to die basically in short.
And I just wondered if anybody else was in the same boat. I think it was an interesting week. Like we're definitely getting kind of richer dynamics because obviously they're spending more time together. I still, I'm not absolutely loving it. I did enjoy this week, Ellie absolutely going mad at Tommy, ripping him to shreds.
I enjoyed the fact that um when what was that girl's name I've forgotten it already but the girl who came in and kind of was with Tommy when she came in to Ellie to kind of apologize and Ellie said my problem's not with you it's with stupid men I do like that kind of girl vibe that we've got going on this year the girls are very much up for each other they're not blaming each other for you know the men's behavior and you love to see that it's a really good example of behavior I think

Chapter 3: How did Hecate's passing affect the reality TV community?
I iron my bed sheets. Yeah, I love an iron bed sheet. Every Saturday afternoon, I iron my bed. How often do you change your sheets? Every week.
Yeah, every week.
So when I go out on a Saturday night... It's kind of an ick.
I come home... No, I think that's a green flag.
I iron with, like, house music on, so I'm like...
And ironing.
Yeah, ironing.
It gets you going. That makes it a bit better.
Yeah, it gets you ready for the evening, then I go out, I have my fun, I come back.

Chapter 4: What are the highlights from this week's episode of Love Island?
They gloss over everything. And Nia was actually on What's What Happens Live this week and she was asked about him hiding alcohol from which has been shown multiple times on the show. And she just totally denied it.
It seems that the receipts are in and Danny did sneak a white claw at the party. He says he didn't. What was your reaction when you saw that?
There was no sneaking. We were actually, I don't know if it was shown or not, we were all playing beer pong. I was sitting next to him. He was drinking white claws and other things. Brittany was there.
But then why was he saying he didn't?
Drink a White Claw. That was at a different party. That was at Zach's party. There's all the different drinking at all the parties. Everybody has all the analysis. But at Brittany's house, we were all drinking together. We were playing beer pong together. We were having a great time. So I don't know why that was. And I'm not drinking right now.
Yeah, right. Me neither. It seems that he has been. It seems like the camera keeps catching him sneaking drinking.
Well, there was the one time at Zach's house.
Okay.
So I can completely understand why people like Janet are frustrated or Lala when they're like, there's no accountability. They never own anything because they want to pretend like everything's okay. And when they're at this lunch where Janet's there, and it is an interesting group because Janet's there. Kristen doesn't like Janet. Nia doesn't like Janet. And they start talking about the drinking.

Chapter 5: What makes 'In The City' a compelling watch this season?
So I don't know if Nathan has learned how to manage his emotions. I don't think he has based on what we've seen. But frankly, I actually wouldn't blame him if he, if he actually went for this guy, because this guy has just been such a dickhead to him from the get go. Otherwise, in terms of storylines, we've got a love triangle between Luke and Jen and Joy. I didn't enjoy his comments.
He was like, you know, he likes Jen because she's hot and full of lust, but he likes Joy because he could go home with her because those are the only two things. If you're hot and full of lust, you couldn't possibly go home with him. hello, Madonna horror complex. Um, and then I also am enjoying the dynamics between the shoes.
It's always fun when there's a bit of tension between the shoes, I think. And, you know, I think it's Asia has chosen to give the second shoe position to Kaylee, who was like a ray of sunshine and has such a good attitude. Yeah. and not Jen who has more experience. And I loved Asha saying that it's not all about experience. It's so much of it is about attitude. And it's true.
And I think that, you know, Kaylee has done a really good job of trying to be really respectful and fair to Jen. Jen is bitter as F. And I think it's going to be interesting to see how that all unfolds over the course of the rest of the season. Well, my friends, that's what I have for you. That's a lot of talking I just did. 45 minutes straight of talking about reality television.
I hope you have enjoyed. I hope you are enjoying the gifts that the Bravo Universe are giving us at the moment. And I will talk to you on Monday when Carl will be delivering us with the week's news. In the meantime, thank you to ACAS for having me on the network. Thank you to Alice O'Brien, assistant producer. And thank you so much for listening.
Over on Patreon, actually, if you're a reality TV fan, over on Patreon, I'm doing something new. You're still getting your new episodes every second week, but I'm also doing a kind of recap series of the BBC show, I Kissed a Girl, which is like a lesbian kind of romance show. And I'm doing that with my friend Alva Reddy, which is really fun. And we've done one episode so far.
So we're going to do episode two in the next few days. So if you like that show, and if you're watching that show, it's kind of tricky because it is BBC three. And I know that can be hard to access here. I'm using a VPN. But it is so good. It's so good. It's better than any straight dating show, I think like immediate drama, immediate messing, like genuinely entertaining people.
It's a load of fun. And myself and Alva are going to be recapping the series over on Patreon. So that's over there if you want to patreon.com.
forward slash catch up with louise makshari now though i hope you have a lovely weekend but if it's not lovely it can't always be lovely just put one foot in front of the other and we'll be together again in london
