Chapter 1: What challenges did Cate and Ty face during Christmas 2026?
Hey guys, welcome back. Welcome back to another episode of Kate and Ty Break It Down. I hope that everybody is feeling well and doing well. Because we just... I feel like we can't catch a damn break. You know how many times we have talked about sickness in the last few weeks?
We all got fucked. We just got fucked. The whole house got fucked.
Well, Christmas sucked.
It sucked.
Chapter 2: How did illness impact the family's Christmas celebrations?
It really sucked this year.
And it was nothing to do with anything but just being everyone was sick. Everybody. Our youngest didn't even open her presents. Half of them she didn't. Half of them she just left them for the next day because we were just so deathly ill.
Actually, I think it was like two days later she opened them. They sat there for two days. Influence A is just... Yeah, and it was like... And before that, like, we... Just this year of sickness in our house has been pure hell. But then it's like, you know, we're, like, big-time Christmas people here. We get so excited for Christmas. We love it. We go all out.
We... It's one of our favorite holidays. Well, yeah. And...
i always look forward to christmas every year and this year just literally sucked like there was a moment in time where i was like super sick and the kids are asking me for eggs and i'm like okay i'm gonna make eggs and i go to put the pepper on the eggs and i twist the wrong top and black peppercorns go flying all over the kitchen and my mother-in-law comes upstairs and i'm like
sobbing because i'm sick trying to make eggs and now i'm cleaning up fucking peppercorns and i'm using this stupid wet vacuum thing that i fucking hate i hate it you're so excited to buy that fucking thing and it's the worst one i've ever bought in and so i'm trying to use that to suck it up and it hits my my like foot mat in front of the stove and the top flies off and i was just literally i was crying and my mother-in-law was like kim she's like are you okay and i'm like no and i don't even know why i'm crying
But it was hell. It started off like a couple days before Christmas.

Chapter 3: What birthday plans did Cate and Ty have for Nova's 11th birthday?
Veda, she was having like super high fevers.
She was the first one that had something going on. And then I felt like we were good for like two days.
Yeah, she had the super high fever, though. I took her to urgent care.
The 104.
Yeah.
Actually, you were sleeping or whatever, but I had her in the morning, and she was at like 104. No, 103 or something like that. So I gave her Tylenol right in the morning. I was like, all right, I'm going to give her a half hour to kick in, whatever. And she's literally sleeping, and this kid doesn't just sleep. She's hyper like me, and so there's no way she's napping.
and so she's sleeping on the chair and i'm like all right it's been like 40 minutes since giving her tylenol i'm gonna check her again and she was just her face was rose color red i was like great and she was sleeping yeah yeah i took the blankets off her and i'm like all right well it's been 40 minutes since give her tylenol so i'm gonna take her temperature again in my head just assuming it's going to be lower because i got tylenol no dude 102 or 103 like 104 and i was like shit and so i was like and your mom was like i had to get her the bath and
And so I had to do the lukewarm bath and she was – I felt so bad for her. Because you know when you're sick and you've got the chills and you're shivering? And then like the water – so I just literally just kept – I sat there with a cup and just kept dumping it over.
Because you know how like you want – it needs to keep hitting your body or else the moment it stops hitting your body, you're freaking out. So, yeah, I had her in the bath, and that took it down to, like, 101 and got her out, and that was the beginning of the hell.

Chapter 4: What are Tyler's thoughts on New Year's Eve parties?
I gave her Motrin.
And then she got out of the bath, and it was, like, 102 again. And so then... So she had Tylenol and Motrin in her system.
Yeah.
And then I took her temperature, like...
a half hour after that and it was back up to 103 again and i'm like okay and motrin and tylenol yeah i was like no dude and so then that's when i was like all right i'm taking her somewhere because something's going on especially if she of motrin and tylenol in your system and it keeps rising and then of course we get to urgent care and then she's just like start she's just like talking up a storm and and i'm like wow of course as soon as we get here i'll be wrong on how long it takes tylenol and motrin to kick in i thought it was like a half hour they say wait like a half hour
I think, I don't know. Maybe it's an hour.
It's an hour?
I don't know.
Maybe I should have, I don't know.

Chapter 5: How did misinformation affect Cate's grandparents?
and the influenza a came back positive and i was like i didn't think too much of it i was like oh okay great you know just rest right you know and so even with her so at that point it was like you know and her fever kept getting so high so it was like all right with veda it was like i'm gonna wake up every four hours in the middle of night make sure i'm giving her you know doses because if you don't then it's like she gets up in the morning and then it's at 103 and she's miserable i'd rather just keep it in her system
So waking up at an alarm clock in the middle of the night to give kids medicine.
Yeah.
While you're sick.
Yeah. Well, yeah, because it was, like, after VEDA, then a couple days we were good. And then it hit us, every single one of us, like, dominoes.
Yep. You had it really bad. I was, like, okay the next day. The first day you had it bad, I was, like, I feel normal. I'm like, all right. And I swear, usually like the house will get sick and I will not get sick. Same. You and Nova usually. Yeah, me and Nova are like – I don't know. Our immune system is different. So I'm like, all right. I'm not going to get it. So I'm good.

Chapter 6: What lessons did Cate and Ty learn from their experience with sickness?
We got one parent out and we have one that's functioning. Literally – It was the day after the first day you had it that I felt normal. And I was like, I, the night before I was like, all right, I'm starting to feel a little fucking weird. And I know guys, I know I don't even need to temperature. If I squeeze my eyes really hard. That's how I know I'm sick because I can feel the heat.
It's like hotness in my eyelids. I'm like, shit. Yeah. I know. Isn't that weird? So I'll be like, am I having temperature? And I'll squeeze my eyelids together.
You're like, yep, I do.
I'm like, yeah, I sure do. And then the next morning, holy shit, Christmas comes. I am.
And everybody's sick on Christmas. Every single one of us except for Nova and Ty's mom.

Chapter 7: How do Cate and Ty feel about the flu shot after their experiences?
Christmas was day three for you, wasn't it?
I think, and that's before I had the diagnosis of pneumonia.
Okay, Christmas was my first day of being just... Death. The night before. And then think about Christmas Eve. You're getting everything ready for Christmas, you know what I'm saying?
I was miserable on Christmas Eve.
If you have kids listening to this, we're telling you to stop. Pause it. Don't say nothing.
Turn it down.
Turn it down, whatever. Tell the kids to put their headphones on. But so Christmas Eve comes around, and me and Kate are deathly sick, putting presents under the tree. Literally dead. We're like zombies trying to make the tree look normal and...
And also, before we even did the presents, I was like, Mom, I thought we were going to bake cookies for Santa. Oh, my God. Shit. No.

Chapter 8: What humorous anecdotes do they share about family dynamics?
And then I felt bad because I was like, I was just going to put them out to my, you know, those chewy chips ahoy and some fucking milk and call it a damn day.
You know?
And then I felt bad and I was like, whatever. So I had a, I had a, uh, like a packet of breakaway ones. And so I was like, here, novel, let's just make these. And she was happy about it. So that made me feel good. I was like, whatever. So we put some fucking cookies and milk out for fucking Santa Claus, even though literally we're dragging ass, like feel like straight death.
It was really bad. I haven't been that sick in probably a decade.
Yeah.
Like it was, I had a headache in my eyeballs and then the baby's sick and she doesn't even know. I could call the baby. She's four, but whatever.
Yeah.
She doesn't know what the hell is going on. She wants to be held. And we're all just sick, dude.
And you know, it's bad because like Veda and Raya, they're not like, you know, people have kids that like fall asleep in cars or just like, well, chill and lay around those two. No, no. And they were like periodically falling asleep on the couches and just like, it was just not good. But when I tell you this was the worst illness I have had, like it was worse than COVID that I've had.
