As a seasoned private detective, Mike Shane is hardly surprised at anything. Puzzled, yes. In fact, this evening, Mike is very puzzled, along with his trim and lovely assistant, Phyllis Knight. Mike's car grinds to a stop near the Presidio, in front of an old brownstone mansion overlooking the Golden Gate. In fact, it is the home of Captain Tire's shipping magnet. The car door slams. Mike and Phyllis hurry up a flight of stairs. The front door opens before them.
