(Not So) Pretty Little Thing

30 Nov 2020

Description

Dear friends,Happy December! Or not so happy, seeing that our favourite podcast The High Low is coming to an end after four years. We bid Pandora Sykes and Dolly Alderton a warm adieu. Black Friday shenanigans took over our week and we fall into a discussion about consumerism and fast fashion when taking a look at Pretty Little Thing’s ridiculous 99% off sale that Venetia La Manna covered. We love Emma Edwards aka @the.brokegeneration’s post on mindful purchases. This week, Meghan Markle penned an op-ed for The New York Times, revealing that she had miscarried her second child in July. We discuss how this vulnerability is a welcome change from the Royal Family, as well as the double-edged sword that goes along with it. Michelle Andrews wrote a column about the criticism women face when speaking out about taboos.Jasmine recommends the film, The Happiest Season, an LGBTQI+ Christmas film starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis. She references this The New York Times  interview with some of the cast, as well as this piece on Syrup that writer Julian Rizzo-Smith so kindly read us an extract from. And Maggie (officially) recommends Dolly Alderton’s debut fiction novel Ghosts. Our jingle, editing and production is by India Raine.
