Chapter 1: What tension is present in today's episode?
Want to hear St Kilda fans, all the club tells us that they're marching in. No, they're not. They're getting marched all over by Hawthorne. Marching out too. Marching out of Bali. Whatever that was. You don't keep going for a half. And thank God Jackson Vine exists. And thank God that you got him. Without him, look at my Tony Locke in the second half. You guys would not keep going.
What was all of that? Letting Hawthorne just break your back like it was nothing. Will Day back to just doing things only Will Day could do. Jack Gunston taking a half off and still kicking goals on you. I mean, Hawthorne aren't even trying now and they're destroying you. To the Saints, march all the way to somewhere else because you're not marching to a final series. All right, welcome back.
Feel Good Friday. I just want to start off with a compliment because last episode, very negative how I came in on a Feel Good Friday, not how you want to set the tone when we're trying to feel good. Just want to compliment everyone's face and especially Joe. Your face looks so non-puffy today. Thank you. Appreciate that. So that looks great. Your earring though looks a little bit red to me.
What's wrong? That looks, I've never had my ear pierced, but it looks infected. Is it getting pussy or? It's red. It's very red. Are you feeling okay with that thing in your ear? That looks cooked, bro. It's infected. It's not good. It's definitely infected. It's like bleeding around the stud. Have you taken that thing in and out a lot?
Well, so you're supposed to, when you get it done, you're supposed to keep it in for six weeks. But I don't think the rats are going to appreciate that me just having a random stud in there after losing a bet to Ash. So I had to chuck the Melbourne one in. And I think along the process, it's... That's when it's got infected. Probably picked up an infection.
You're not sharing that earring with anyone, are you? Like a needle that you're sharing with someone. Oh, Ash was borrowing it the other day. Oh, okay. Sharing ear gunk with each other. That's disgusting. We're brothers. Sharing studs. Brothers for life. Let's do it. Sharing studs. Also got to the bottom of how we can find out Xander's voicemail.
So if you've been tuned last week, we found this amazing thing where...
You wouldn't want another false start on this.
Well, if you've changed on me right now, it was just amazing that you breaking stories, having to call people, your phone is your biggest weapon. And if someone came back your way, they're getting this. They're going to hit with this. So let's just pretend, oh, I've got a huge story. Let's call him right now. I've got to call him. I'm going to tell him. I'm on him.

Chapter 2: What happened in the clash between St Kilda and Hawthorn?
I want him to break it.
Have you changed again? Man, are you guys fucking with me now with this thing? How do you do it? Maybe you do it with your phone. Does it work with yours? We literally set it up. Oh, no.
I think it's done. I think it's done.
Have you changed it?
No, I didn't. Are you on D&D? Mate, if I could make it so that it never happens. Have you got it?
You recorded it. I recorded it the other day. We've lost it again. I'm not doing it anymore. How did you not record it? No, we did, but I have 4,000 videos on my camera. Go to last Friday morning because we found it. That's when you recorded it. Man, I'm done with your voice note. What is this? I'm not doing this anymore with you. I don't care about your voice note anymore. I'm over it.
It works sometimes. It doesn't work sometimes. I'm just moving on from it.
It's a phantom thing. People are going to have to ring me with stories.
Completely gone. Joe, you try. Why don't we just give Xander's number out? So someone else call 04. We should. We will get to the bottom of it, but I'm over it today. It's already ruined my vibe for this whole episode. See you later next week, everyone. I'm going home.

Chapter 3: How did the panel react to the game performance?
And I think that's where it's stuffed up because Hawthorne assumed they had the extra interchange. So the number that they were being shown was, They've done nothing wrong. They're just going off the number that's been shown. It's the fact that someone's whole job is to count how many people come on and off and make sure that number's right.
So for your point, it's very frustrating the AFL to just come on and say, well, nothing to see here, even though it was clearly a mistake. It should have been freaky. But it is what it is. Like, you can't do anything about it. The AFL's clearly not going to go off the back about it. I mean, when it's the AFL's first mistake that they've made, you've got to let them off. Yeah.
I suppose the AFL and they, they conceded to me, which I mean, I think it was buried somewhere in that article, but they conceded to me that they got it wrong and that they made a mistake and that their person buggered it up, which changed the whole thing. And yeah, I mean, it's just interesting because the 76 happened right, right at that point. So, um,
I wasn't the one that was saying overturn the result. That was Kane, Corns and Caro.
I was saying it. I wanted a fair game. You were really aggressive in our group text. Yeah, very defensive. I was really angry at Zed. Then I was like, you know what? He's copped way too much shit for it. It was a good story. I'm just going to let him have it. You were all on release a story. It's such a good story.
And then as soon as someone brought up that there might be two points off the Hawks, you went real heel turn.
Bullshit story. Don't like it anymore. I'm off it. And there was like an hour gap between when I did it on agenda setters and when it hit socials and Joey was like trying to figure out what was going on. It was an hour gap. What just happened?
How do I say this? Where's Andy Gowers? What came about Andy Gowers? What article came about him? Oh, another bullshit story. Another hit piece. Genuine bullshit story, though. On your lap. You can cover it, Xander, because I didn't read the whole thing. I just started spraying comments everywhere. Joey sees one negative thing about Hawthorne. He's like, I'm on the offense. It's a bullshit thing.
I didn't read it, but on the surface, it felt like bullshit. Go Hawks. I'm not paying for that, but it sounds bullshit. Something about him paying for something where, I don't know. I also didn't read it. A few of the Hawks media were sending me like screenshots of my comments because I was spraying them all over Instagram. They're like, thanks for going to town for me.

Chapter 4: What are the implications of the latest AFL coaching changes?
Yeah, no. Who would I go? Who should I go?
Okay, if it's Carlton, you should go someone rogue like Taylor Byrne. Someone who's just not expecting it at all. Jack Ison. Jack Ison? He'll give you heaps, I reckon, though. He seems like a legend in the media. Mitch Edwards for Geelong. Just makes no sense when it's gone to someone who just won't see it coming. I was talking about the game last night. Saints 67, Hawks 119.
Dare I say it, is Hollywood Hawk all the way back? Oh, yeah. Feels like we're fun again. It feels like maybe it's a better version of what it was previously. We parked it and put it away because kind of we feel like Sam Mitchell with his AI bots was in this mode of, I just want to be good now. We have to be a bit more structured, a bit more serious, went away from being fun.
The last couple of weeks, especially last night, saw some smiles, which is good. That first half, I mean, Saints were equally as bad, but first half felt like we're kind of back here at Hawthorne. Yeah, no, I agree with that. Gunston back, it feels like that's a big difference maker for them.
He played really well last night again, but no, they played back to the footy that they've been playing before the last couple of weeks. But it was fun. Yeah, it's fun. Their half-back line is like, I don't know, you watch the good sides and they try and take, say, Sicily off the table, and then as soon as you don't do that, they just look so much better. They intercept well.
Their ball movement's great. We spoke about him the last few weeks, but outstanding again. It's just... I don't know. They're a very good footy side. If you look at, like, who played well for him, it's always someone different, which I think is so varied compared to a lot of other clubs. Cam McKenzie was outstanding last night, had a huge night. He's great. Like, such good year.
I've said this to guys. If I was, say, Carlton, he'd be ā if Hawthorne are going after Zach Merritt or whatever ā I'm one of the teams down the bottom. I'm trying to chase Kevin McKenzie. He just re-signed for two years. Yeah, but I'm still trying to chase him down. Re-signs now, but you get another midfielder in and someone's got to get squeezed out.
Crazy you read that article, Joey, without just writing off comments. You know it was two years. He's an outstanding year. He's a very good young player and they didn't want to get rid of him. He was part of the reason why they just flat out refused to trade him with Zach Merritt last year. But midfield depth, he'd be one that I'd be targeting.

Chapter 5: How does injury impact player performance and team dynamics?
He was getting dropped last year. He's been in and out. He was in and out last year. He's like being touted as like the next Sam Mitchell, like around the club. Kind of plays not like him, but moves like him. Moves exactly like him. Arches his back, splits out contests.
There were a few clubs that had a look at him last year. Did they? Wanted to get him across. Yeah. Started a year to run on the deal though. How old is he? 21. Oh, he's 22. Kane said he could win a Brownlow. Remember that? Last year?
That's a massive call. That's a good guy, man. I hope he does. All about him. I said way more. Joe, he's fired off a lot more comments than that. No, but they feel like everything. Mitch Lewis is going to get paid so much money with his season.
They're going to have to pay him now. He's out of there.
Yeah, you reckon?
Yeah, he's good. I don't know. He's playing so well.
Surely not after we've been so generous in giving him so much time to recover from all his injuries. Generous. Oh, how nice of you to help him with his ACL. No, he's done like what? Multiple ACLs? Yeah. Yeah.
You guys are so generous to your players. He'll have to turn down something pretty good. Especially with Ben King off the table. Yeah.
Open market for key forwards is going to be large this year. Even like, Amadi's 1.2 to 1.4 million dollar player, allegedly.

Chapter 6: What strategies are teams using to improve player performance?
And then if you stay back shoulder, he'll literally put you on the fence. That's different to a lot of other people. He'll put you and you'll be standing in the gutter. And then he uses like the goal umpire and the goal post as a defender as well. It's so crafty. It's just, yeah, if you're a defender, that week of training, you're just on the fence being like, yeah, I'm going to jump this fence.
Because it's just one sprint. And I hope for him to be in row 10 next week. It's unbelievable. How many fullbacks that are comfortable playing deep on the field are like explosively quick? Most of the guys that are comfortable playing deep are like your big guys that are playing on the big tools across the league.
There's not many other teams that have someone that's so explosive that sits in the goal square. No. So then if it's like a Horn Francis or something, you then would put like a medium-sized defender on it. But you put a medium-sized defender on Jack Gunston, that doesn't work either. No.
So is that what, like, should Gold Coast be doing that with Bailey Humphrey? Should Port be doing that with Horne Francis? It's a new trend.
No, because then you can put in another small mid or medium-sized player that can go with them.
But if they can't go with the craft.
Yeah, but there's an element of, like, Gunston's craft is, like, those guys are mids naturally, so they're not as good at finding the back and playing that way. Gunston's amazing at it. But there's definitely merit around playing ā There's not too many teams that are doing as disconnected forward as Hawthorne.
But the way that they do it is like, we'll send everyone else off the field, but if we win that contest on the wing, we're going 1v1 versus Jack Gunston or whoever's inside 50 again. It's like he's so, like we say disconnected, I think that's the term. That's what Ginnivan used. He's his own team, really. Like he's so far away from it.
Is it going to be the start of a new trend where other teams go ā Fuck it, let's try it as well. You should. Like if you're another team looking at it, you should be looking at who's your most dangerous and powerful forward and how can you isolate them as much as you can.

Chapter 7: What are the panel's thoughts on the upcoming matches?
Wasn't he a little happy boy?
He's back to being fun. Oh, yeah. He was loving getting in Jack Gunston. Gunston was just, could have kicked 10, sitting there going, ah, that's funny, Hardwick's there. He's going well. It's not going too well, though. Let's throw him down back every now and then. I think they generally get joy out of taking the piss out of Jack Gunston. It brings the team together.
A lot of bonding experiences to make this grumpy old man even more grumpy. They should do it. It's like us on a Friday with you. Yeah, it is. When they're not going well, they should just do a Jack Gunston roast for the team meeting. That would be good. Yeah. Love it. Yeah, he was up and about. That's what I'm saying. They're fun. They're fun. The way they're moving the ball.
You cut to him in the coach's box and he was... He had a huge spray. The bench chills him out. He's with the lads. They're poking at him. Two different Sams. He doesn't even respond to the lads. Grumpy boy. Angry. Oh, he was having a bit of a giggle. Was he?
Yeah. And very happy after the game. Yeah. You see, there's no such thing as a perfect game, obviously, but he was ā I mean, he'd be so sore in the cheeks. So much smiling going on down there and dubbing the boys up. Loved it. You've got to stop.
Wasn't it? He'd be so sore in the cheeks. Okay.
When he said smiling, I knew what he meant. I was like, okay, good. Will Day, nice cheeks. He was great. And he touches ā How ā I just forget because he's been so injured how good he is and how different he is for this team. Like a point difference. He's just, his length, he's just so long and like his speed. Some of the kicks he takes on as well. You're like, okay, that's just, he's amazing.
He's amazing.
Yeah. Bites off those, bites off those kicks well. Like takes, takes difficult kicks inside 50. Just always find someone. Like who'd he hit up? Was it, was it Gunson with, when he was on the wing and he was just like the most unbelievable kick in. Find space.

Chapter 8: How do the panelists feel about the overall state of the AFL?
Go back to some of the arcs that Buddy Franklin would take up a ton of times and, and they're paying that, but he actually made it harder, like marginally harder for himself. He was going towards the boundary line. Yeah. So he didn't open up the angle. It was actually ridiculous. And look, maybe the umpire has been told to interpret it that way. Like I'm not, I'm not,
gonna kill the umpire here but I will that's gotta change and did you see Sam Mitchell and his presser after the game yeah he wasn't happy about it he goes we will certainly be taking this to the AFL it makes no sense he basically said lucky it wasn't a one goal game otherwise that would have been a massive story imagine that that's like a grand final it's like nah before half time close game
Not allowed. I can't wait for the AFL to go, hey, what about those two points?
Yeah, yeah.
Let's just relax. AFL clear it.
Well, you know, the AFL, everyone just refresh AFL.com.au today and they'll be- Nah, 12.20 tomorrow. All clear.
Do you want me to take the trash out?
Yeah, take out the trash.
A lot of bad term, taking the trash out at 12.20. 12.20 on a Saturday and then like 7.20 on a Thursday? Yeah. Take the trash out? Yeah. Right. It'll drop it. That's so good. Yeah, that was just horrible. So they just sneak it in the AFL app, do they? Just in the AFL media?
