What autoimmune symptoms did Elisabeth McKay experience before peptides?
For those of you that have dealt with chronic illness and autoimmune disease, you've spent so much of your life not feeling good that when you finally know what it feels like to feel good again, you want that back. I knew very definitively, I'm like, okay, this is a great experiment, never doing this again.
Your brain is wired for deception, but here's the truth. Patterns can be broken. The code can be rewritten. Once you hear the truth, you can't go back. So the only question is, are you ready to listen?
Y'all, this episode has been needing to happen for probably almost a year. So many of you have been waiting anxiously on my peptide update that never happened. Do you know why? Because life got so good and I started to feel so good in my body that I forgot about the whole thing. Now I'm going to try my best to catalog back from probably the first one I ever did on it was maybe June of last year. Now we're almost in June of this year so it just seems like the right time to do the peptide update. For those of you that haven't listened to the original one, it was in season one and I believe the episode was called The Peptide Protocol. At that point, I was a solid 35 pounds heavier of arguably inflammation, water retention, so much nonsense.
I got diagnosed with lupus when I was 23. And in that particular year, my symptoms, while they just got diagnosed, really I'd been having those recurring symptoms for probably four consecutive years. And at that time, I did really manage everything with diet. Straight up, I had a very, very good doctor. I think I've said this in the last episode. Shout out to Dr. Thal. He's probably dead now because he was very, very old back then. If you're not dead, God bless. Keep it up. He was kind of a hippie, hippie doctor way back in the day when alternative and complementary medicine was like not really a thing yet. And he was in Hawaii. So if anyone does track him down and he is alive again. Shout out to Dr. Thal.
So at that time, I got on a bunch of supplements. He put me on this really radical dietary protocol, and I sucked everything because I was miserable, you guys. So miserable. When I got diagnosed... My whole body had swollen lymph node glands. They thought that I had lymphoma. I guess, praise God, it turned out to only be lupus. My ANA scores were off the charts. I think the first test I ever had, my ANA scores were over like well over a thousand. And I think, I don't know what the exact range is, but I think like 48 is the high normal range. So it was like very, very over the line. And I was having body spasms, terrible migraines all the time. I just felt like my body was shutting down. I literally felt like I was dying.
And I had that really well managed by being very strictly paleo pretty much until I had my last two kids. So for reference, I just turned 41 in March and I had two back to back kids that are now four and five respectively. So I had a what they call a geriatric pregnancy where I had back to back babies. And honestly, thank God I did, because I think if I had had time to recuperate and get my body back, I probably would have convinced myself not to get pregnant again because I It's true. Pregnancy takes a much bigger toll on your body when you're older. And one of the delightful symptoms that happened to me through pregnancy as an older person was that like all my back teeth rotted out simultaneously.
Never had a cavity in my whole life. And suddenly all the nutrients got leached out of my back teeth. It was awful, you guys. So I have these two back-to-back babies and... Initially after Harley, the first one of the latter two, initially after Harley, I actually felt like I was bouncing back. Things were great. And then I got pregnant with River when Harley was legitimately, I think, like two and a half months old. If you look on my Instagram, there's a picture of me holding a tiny baby and it's like, surprise, I'm pregnant. So then I have River. And interestingly enough, after River, I actually my body started to go back to normal right away.
