The Mindset Shift That Changes The Way You Age and How to Get and Stay Strong For Life with Dr. Gabrielle Lyon
21 Jan 2026
Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, welcome back to the podcast.
Chapter 2: What is the muscle mandate and why is it essential for health?
Drew, I mean, this is pretty major.
Chapter 3: How does culture influence our relationship with strength?
Since the last time you've been on the podcast and you started this whole muscle protein revolution, you've become a New York Times bestseller, millions of views on all the different social channels and podcasts and other things. How does it feel to know that you've made such a difference in the lives of so many people, but especially so many women?
when it comes to their aging and their muscle and their longevity?
I mean, first of all, it's so great to see you. Thank you so much. I always have a blast sitting down talking to you and sharing with your audience because they are incredibly receptive to the information that we're about to lay out. Now, you asked me this question and you and I have known each other for years now.
And you were one of the first people to believe in me and say, okay, listen, muscle, I get it. And muscle is the organ of longevity, which it is. But since this book has come out, the world is now ready. For the longest time, people have believed that skeletal muscle is just about being jacked and tanned. We already know that that's not true.
And with the aging population, especially women, muscle, there has to be a muscle mandate.

Chapter 4: What is the missing skill in a reactive, overstimulated world?
It's got to show up. Muscle is now more important than ever. And we're throwing out the salads and the leotards.
Chapter 5: How can practicing neutrality help with emotional regulation?
and the leg warmers. And I think that we're all trading it in for a little bit of steak or protein and some weights. And that is what is going to transform the world.
Well, the next stage of that conversation is all the feedback that you've gotten from your audience, people that have been gifted the book, handed the book, and are like, hey, I'm implementing this. And there's some things that I'm working through, trying to figure out. And there's also the best practices that you've developed after coaching, having different people in your practice.
And so we're going to be talking about all those today on the podcast. And one of the first ones we're going to chat about to unlock people stepping into this forever strong mentality, which can literally transform their life, add years to their life and add health to their life as well, too, is the mindset piece. It's one of the areas that trips people up the most.
What's one of the biggest mistakes that people make when it comes to mindset?
It is that they believe that they have to get too hyped up, that we have to be so pumped and so motivated to take action, to do the thing that we know that we need to do. And when I wrote this playbook, I started it with an ethos. And an ethos is a collective message that we can all work under.

Chapter 6: What simple tools can help break the autopilot of negative thinking?
It's a paradigm. And in part, it's that aging is inevitable, but weakness is a choice. Strength is not a luxury, but it's a responsibility. And we have to close the delta between why someone will take action versus just think about it or just be interested. Because nobody acts when they're interested. Nobody acts when they're informed.
Chapter 7: Why is identifying your 'why' crucial for lasting change?
They act when they're inspired and when they're educated. And I know that we're going to be talking about protocols, but eating protein, building muscle, all critical, right? You are not going to do well in life physically or mentally if you are not physically and mentally strong. However, these things don't exist in isolation. They exist as part of a cultural movement.
What I am trying to do is to create a movement and a culture shift of forever strong people.
There's a great quote from the book. Your mind is the command center, your most powerful ally in the quest for the life you desire. Every action, reaction, and routine begins here. What does that quote mean to you?
It all begins in the mind. And, you know, you and I were chatting before we turned the cameras on, and I said, Drew, how many health and wellness books, how many nutrition books do you think someone who's interested has? I mean, I looked at my own
Chapter 8: How can we interrupt the complaining loop to regain energy?
And when I was early on in my career interested in nutrition, I probably had 25 nutrition books. I was interested. I wasn't compelled to take action. And when we focus our mind on the fact that we are not always going to be, quote, motivated to do and take an action, but that there is a necessity. And that necessity begins with a way of thinking, which is surprisingly neutral. Neutral.
If I was going to leave your listeners or your viewers with the number one thing that they could do to transform their life, it would be be neutral. Tell us more about that. What does that look like?
And what does the opposite look like too?
Okay, so give me something that is reasonable for you that you would be unfamiliar with or when you started your career doing something that was uncomfortable or different for you. What does that look like? Probably in-person podcast. Oh my gosh. Exactly. Let's say three years ago when you started the podcast. It was longer than three years ago. How long ago was it?
2018.
Okay.
Yeah.
2018. You are a G. And do you remember the first couple podcasts? Yeah. How exhausted were you after those podcasts?
Definitely took a lot of mental energy. So you're both... a little excited, but you're exhausted as well.
