Chapter 2: How did Steven Adams' injury impact the Houston Rockets?

41.633 - 65.295 Adam Matas

Great show for you lined up today. Huge news in the Western Conference. Yeah. Honestly, sneaky, huge news. This is a big deal as Steven Adams is out for the year. Yeah. Is one contender off the board or. Does that mean that they are even more incentivized to go all in and make a big trade? We'll talk about that. We've also got Javon Carter in studio. Big get for us. Huge get.

0

65.315 - 66.576 D-Line Co.

Especially right around the trade deadline.

0

66.596 - 77.389 Adam Matas

One of my favorite players, Javon Carter, West Virginia, Chicago Bull, trade target for the Nuggets. Very excited to talk to him about Big Brothers, Big Sisters. And then later on in the show.

0

77.369 - 101.689 Harrison Wind

101.669 - 108.76 Brendan Vogt

That's right. Just in case you weren't clear on Adam's wry humor, it's not actually Javon Carter. Wait, what?

Chapter 3: What insights does Javon Carter provide about Big Brothers Big Sisters?

108.78 - 113.147 Brendan Vogt

I'm just kidding. Javon Carter is in the studio. Yes.

0

113.607 - 116.291 Adam Matas

I see him right there. Javon Carter is in the studio.

0

116.331 - 120.278 Brendan Vogt

West Virginia legend. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I don't want to step on the bit.

0

120.318 - 121.439 D-Line Co.

Yeah, don't step on the bit.

0

Chapter 4: What are the highlights of Michael Porter Jr.'s career moments?

121.459 - 141.295 D-Line Co.

And then rounding out the show, the professional one, Harrison Wind. That is me, the professional one, of course. I'm hyped for today's show, guys. Of course, of course. I love the trade deadline. One of my favorite days of the year. And I feel it in my bones. It's coming. We're getting some more little tidbits of information. I've been filtering out, hearing more and more.

0

141.315 - 147.086 D-Line Co.

The trade winds are blowing very quickly. Wind chimes?

0

Chapter 5: How has Cam Johnson performed since the trade?

147.106 - 148.028 D-Line Co.

And fast.

0

148.598 - 162.321 Harrison Wind

Wow, this is getting weird. They're blowing hard and fast. I thought of you when I was watching a movie recently called Transpeccos, and it opens with this guy talking about how he can feel something's coming in the wind. Yeah. I was like, I know a guy like that. I can feel it. Yeah.

0

162.341 - 166.789 D-Line Co.

And the trade deadline is coming. It's almost a week away. It's actually about a week away.

0

167.009 - 169.774 Brendan Vogt

There is a salty must about the air.

0

170.295 - 178.807 Adam Matas

Well, we have to begin, though, with a new segment here. And it is, of course, the X Factor presented by Xfinity. Imagine that.

Chapter 6: What are the implications of the trade for the Nuggets' future?

178.968 - 197.708 Adam Matas

Throw those X's up, boys. Big discussion. I'll throw them up there. Xfinity X Factor right out of the package because a major X Factor dropped on us on X. Oh, geez. How amazing is that? It really is. And it's triple X. It's a triple X, man. This came to us via Sham Sharania, the man in the know, who says...

0

197.688 - 210.314 Adam Matas

As of an hour ago, Houston Rockets center Stephen Adams has undergone season-ending surgery on his left ankle. Season-ending. Now, if you don't watch the Houston Rockets too much, they have some good players, Kevin Durant, Changoon.

0

210.334 - 213.52 Brendan Vogt

I feel so bad for them. What was happening? The championship game was snowing?

0

213.54 - 221.078 Adam Matas

Don't do this. Don't do this. Don't do it. Don't do this. We never root for anybody's injury, especially somebody as beloved as Steven Adams.

0

221.098 - 226.433 Brendan Vogt

I'm saying, like, I wonder what that feels like to be a Houston fan when there's a star player to a broken ankle.

227.055 - 238.777 Adam Matas

Oh, I see what you're doing there. It's a Bo Nix thing. Steven Adams, though, if you don't watch, their best three players are Amin Thompson, Kevin Durant, Alperin Shangoon. Not in that order, but those are their three best guys. They have some length.

Chapter 7: What potential moves are the Rockets considering in the trade market?

238.797 - 258.094 Adam Matas

But their identity, their real identity, is that they are so physical and a monster on the offensive boards, in large part because they're the only team in the NBA that commits fully to the double center lineup of Alperin Shangoon and Steven Adams. That's their identity. They have holes in their roster. They lost Fred Van Fleet. They don't have a true point guard.

0

258.595 - 278.816 Adam Matas

Losing Steven Adams to me is losing your identity. And this team, even though they still have some talented players, as presently constructed, in my opinion, not a contender. Could they upset a team in the playoffs? Probably. I'm not saying that Denver would be guaranteed to beat them, but I would be very disappointed if they lost to this team as presently constructed.

0

279.357 - 295.882 Harrison Wind

I honestly think that was already almost the case with the point guard thing and credit to them for the way they came out of the gates sprinting despite that. KD recently in a press conference said, we're not this mid. I don't get it. I don't get what's happening. I think you kind of just hit the nail on the head. How does he not get it by now?

0

295.902 - 298.406 Brendan Vogt

Every team he's been on since he left the Warriors.

0

300.89 - 313.772 Harrison Wind

I think part of it for Houston is without their point guard, one of the bread and butters of their offense was the offensive rebound rate and just the size that they threw out there. And like not having Adams is a big part of that. So like you've already seen them kind of struggle with this.

Chapter 8: How does the current Nuggets roster compare to previous seasons?

313.852 - 325.233 Harrison Wind

If it's the rest of the year, like I'm not eager to bury Houston or anything. It's just if this if if an equivalent end of year injury happened to the Nuggets, we would be worried. And I think Houston should be worried, too.

0

325.754 - 348.78 Brendan Vogt

Oh, they're cooked. They're cooked. Absolutely. As presently constructed. Right. You can get uncooked, but they're currently cooked. Okay. You can decook yourself. First of all, as an actual metaphor, I don't think that works. What you do is like you cook a piece of meat and then you cut the piece of meat up and then you turn it into meat ramen. Like you recook the thing. Wait, what?

0

348.8 - 359.735 Brendan Vogt

It just becomes an ingredient into your next cooking. I'm not wrong. You can't uncook me. So the point is that they're dead. We knew this when the season started and Fred Van Vliet was out. We all buried them then.

0

360.035 - 363.06 Adam Matas

I don't think we buried them. It's just that they were weakened. They were weakened.

0

363.18 - 376.819 Brendan Vogt

I buried them because they need a point guard. And now I agree that they were coming along just fine. They found a new way to do it. But now that's gone. They are cooked. And I mean, I...

376.799 - 390.606 Adam Matas

Another layer of this, though, is that Fred Van Vliet was their leader. I mean, he's the veteran guy that everybody respects. Steven Adams, also that guy. I mean, the tough veteran guy that kind of anchors them. They kind of lost their two leaders.

391.43 - 414.113 D-Line Co.

yeah for sure i mean this is an absolute killer and i mean the first thing i thought of is okay they have to make a massive trade now you're trading steven adams plus or you're punting on the year one of the whatever your package was going to be well they're not going to punt on their second in the west i'm just saying halfway through the season those are their two choices fourth but some point remains or or just just back of second place in the west um

414.093 - 423.503 D-Line Co.

But I mean, they're still good. It's just this has taken them from, in my opinion, right below the Nuggets in the West to now they're well below the Nuggets.

424.103 - 439.599 Adam Matas

I'm not even sure. I mean, they are good, but they're certainly not great, man. I mean, I just don't know that you could sustain. For one, now they're short players. We know what that's like to have to go through. They have a half a season still to get through, and you're already down two guys permanently. So they already just have the numbers game they have to play.
