Coach's Corner. Then we're going to break down a comment from three of our coaches, Jason Ryan and Dave Rennie. Neil Barnes, things that they've said post-match and over the last couple of days, press conferences that Jamie's been at as well, and just kind of analyse... really what they are saying, why they're saying it, what they're meaning by this. I also want to talk about the high risk, high reward game that obviously the All Blacks are playing and that this is not something new. And if you've been watching the All Blacks over a number of decades, you'll know that this is not something new. But it's certainly the way that France have been attacking their rugby and especially through the Six Nations on that.
What are the key insights from Dave Rennie's comments on the All Blacks vs France match?

Obviously, frenetic kind of paced rugby. And the Nations Championship in general after the first round, Jamie. So we've got a lot to talk about. Let's look to start with, though, at Dave Rennie. And this was a question put to him at the press conference on Saturday night. And this would have been probably about a good hour and a bit after the game had actually finished. And the question was along the lines that France had lightning quick ball as well.
Just in terms of the lightning quick ball, I thought France also had a pretty quick ball. 76%. What defensively do you want to... I mean, how did you feel about the defensive performance and what improvements did you want to see?
We just need more time, more reps, more around combinations. There's a lot of guts. We scrambled really well at times. But we've just got to get off the line and apply a lot more pressure, get two in the tackle more often to give them slow ball so we can reset and get off the line and do it again. We spent a bit of time on it over the last few days. We just need a lot more. And it'll make a massive difference because you can give them slow ball. It gives us time to fold, get appropriate numbers, and get off the line. Both teams played pretty similar mindsets. You look at a lot of his stats, the numbers are very similar.
Now the significant thing there is he comes in with a number, 76% straight away. So that means that somebody's been analysing the stats, obviously during the game, but he's got that uppermost in his mind, hasn't he?
Yeah, and the reason I wanted to bring this up is because of the chat around statistics last week. The All Blacks have been very open and honest about this. feels like quite a shift from previous coaching tenures regimes whatever you want to call it in that this feels like a little bit of a secret even though you could probably figure this out for yourself that this is what they're focusing on and so quick to come out of Dave Rennie's mouth like Yeah, I want you guys to know that while there's going to be plenty of chat about our lack of kicking and lots of running and ruck speed and everything, they were doing it too. And my immediate thought when that happened was that that was really seeding the idea that
while there's going to be a bit of chat about the All Blacks' defence, you have to take into account that that was a French team playing essentially the same type of game that the All Blacks were. And I think he kind of got the message across a little bit because there was quite a bit of praise for the French effort afterwards. We saw Fabien Gaultier come in afterwards and also give a very magnanimous response recap of the game in which he said well we you know we were trying to do the same thing as well and so I think because of that it kind of softened the conversation around the defensive effort a bit because he was he was bringing up the fact that yeah if they're gonna play as fast as we are then it's gonna end up with a high score line either way and that's something people probably need to understand
