What are Kim and Grandma Gail doing in Palm Beach?
Welcome back to another episode of Excuse My Grandma. It's Kim and my co-hosts, Grandma Gail. Grandma and I are in Palm Beach. I've been in New York City mostly. Every time I bump into people, they're like, what are you doing nowadays? Like, are you, when are you here? Are you in Palm Beach full time? I know. And I'm like, honestly, I go back every week or two.
Yeah. Well, to do business, we need to come back to New York to go back to New York and then to be with me in Florida. Otherwise we can't do it together. And since my husband had a knee operation, I haven't been able to leave him this winter, which is stressful because I really like to go back to the city like a week or 10 days a month.
Yeah.
It'll be over soon.
Yeah. We literally only have less than a month left here.
Correct. I'm already thinking about getting the boxes and the suitcases up from my basement here and taking back stuff that I didn't wear here and I'm not going to wear them in New York. So I'm really going to think very carefully this time because really in the city, I don't dress up very much. I mean, it's mostly slacks.
You dress up more here?
Yeah, I think so. You know, it's much more casual living for me in New York. I don't go to the big fancy balls.
Yeah, because they have more parties here, I guess.
Yeah, they have more parties and there are places that tend to say, you know, you need to be dressed. Right. I don't think. Poppy needs to put on a jacket anywhere unless he's chilly in the city.
Yeah, I wonder why it still has that like formality in the culture and fashion here.
Well, I think it's been an old guard society for a very long time. And they love to get dressed up because, you know, women always like to put things on that look pretty. There is no, thank heavens, there's no threat of being mugged or robbed or, you know, we don't have those concerns as much. There is some. I'm sure you now have to lock all your cars, that's for sure, because they steal the cars. They don't want to steal your dresses.
But I don't think if a lady went out in a fancy dress in New York, they would be mugged.
Well, but they wouldn't wear the jewelry. They wouldn't wear perhaps their engagement ring.
I don't know if that fear is true.
No, I think it is.
I know people talk about it, but if you're getting in an Uber and you're going to like a charity event, and then you're getting back in the Uber and going home.
Well, if you're very secure, it was a very interesting thing. You're talking about that. There was a problem just yesterday. The taxi drivers, there was a scam man online. on Clematis Street, which is right near where the college is in West Palm Beach, who was scamming riders. And I, you know, I don't take Ubers that much, but evidently when they gave him the credit card, he was able to get... Wait, you don't give Ubers credit cards? Well, he was, he's a taxi. He wasn't an Uber or a Lyft. He was, you know, supposedly a taxi.
So the taxi driver, not an Uber driver.
What is the latest influencer drama discussed?
A taxi driver. And he really, I don't think he was a real taxi driver either, but he evidently scammed over 50 people. And he had... He was charging more than... No, he was taking their security code that was on the credit card, which I don't know how... And he went and he cashed in money from their accounts.
It's not great.
So they arrested him, thank heavens. So don't worry about it. It's all cleared up. But, you know, people do devious things. I never think of that, but you have to be a little careful.
Yeah. I mean, I guess that could really happen anywhere. Yeah.
Don't you remember when you get off in an airport, when somebody says, come in my taxi, come on my taxi. And I always want to tell people who come into New York, don't do that. Go to the taxi stand, go to a legitimate driver.
You think that people would just know that, but I don't know.
Yeah, but I don't think so. I think people are very trusting.
Yeah. Dad and I were walking in Central Park like a few weeks ago. And you know, the pedicab or whatever is like, we're on the bike. They like pull up and they're like, do you want to get in? And we're like, no, it's okay. And for the next five minutes, he's like, I'm going to keep bothering you until you decide to get in. And we were like, you know, we're not tourists. And they're very expensive.
