Excuse My Grandma
Excuse My Grandma While We Talk Oscars and International Women’s Day
Thu, 06 Mar 2025
This week, Kim and Grandma Gail bring it back to their early days of the podcast via video call. After a few hours of technical difficulties, they caught up on Kim’s birthday celebrations, the hottest things coming to Palm Beach, how it’s impossible to eat in NYC (let Kim and Gail know how to score a reservation at Chez Fifi), and fake Hermes bags. In honor of International Women’s Day, the female founders of Excuse My Grandma give advice and recognition to all the amazing women pursuing their dreams! In the Drama Club, Kim recaps the Oscars. Grandma was in it for the fashion and red carpet, while Kim was there for the awards and the “Defying Gravity” performance (which she watches on repeat). In the Grandma Report, they discuss a recent Nature Medicine study (read the article here) about what really ages you. From loneliness to lifestyle habits, certain factors are in your control. Grandma recommends eating healthy, staying active, and enjoying life! Based on “The Kardashians,” biohacking and a vampire lifestyle might be the answer to longevity. Kim’s latest obsession in The Rewind is “The White Lotus” (on Max). She’s three episodes into Season 3, and already loving the drama. It’s a murder mystery based in Thailand –what’s not to like?!The women answer a listener's email, who is still thinking about a kiss she had 50 years ago! Would you tell your twin sister her boyfriend “accidentally” kissed you? Grandma and Kim give their honest thoughts. Do you have family drama you need opinions on? Write to [email protected] or DM us with a voicemail! To finish the episode, they play Should We Bring It Back: 1950s Slang Edition. Who else is calling their new crush a dreamboat instead of a smokeshow? They also answer your questions about snowbirding, fashion, and staying positive about dating in a round of Ask Grandma Anything. Chapter 1: What challenges did they face during the podcast setup?
Welcome back to another episode of Excuse My Grandma. It's Kim and my co-host.
And my gal.
We are doing a remote podcast. I'm in New York. Grandma's in Palm Beach. And it was really easy to set up this Zoom call.
Oh, sure. It's only taken us three hours. We can't get it going still. But hopefully you can hear both of us clearly.
Yes. But the ability for you to have set up a podcast on your own is more than most people my age can even do. So it just was a lot of growing.
A lot of cords. A lot of changing the mics. A lot of mic changes. Okay, let's try it, Kim.
I mean, it's being a female founder, owning a business. Your career has evolved so much.
I know, but I can afford to get somebody to help me. If you gave me a heads up, I would have had somebody come up and really professionally do this. It's you don't know which cord to put in which place. And it's it's a lot of stuff. I give kudos to all the engineers who do this all the time. It wasn't meant for Grandma Gail.
It's taking us back to our early days of Excuse My Grandma where we were really doing all of the setup every time on our own.

Chapter 2: What are the highlights of Kim's birthday celebrations?
Yeah, well, lazy or just evolving, we're focusing our time on other things, maybe, and the things that we can get help on, we get help on. But I wanted to say, being female founders is an amazing thing. Coming up is International Women's Day. I think it will be the day after this episode comes out, actually. So... Yeah, just wanted to say thank you.
Well, we're certainly having fun being founders and people actually find us all over the place. So we're really significantly being found. So good luck to all the new people who are starting out. It's a great journey.
Anything to say to women out there for an International Women's Day?
Yes. Well, I think women really should feel proud of themselves. No matter where you are in the work cycle, always look ahead. There's always something that will change and never give up hope. There's always a little bit of a setback and then you go forward a couple of steps. Don't worry about the bumps in the road.
Really, if you persevere, you're going to make it because women are powerful and we're smart. And we can do it. I love that.

Chapter 3: What is the significance of International Women's Day?
So let's catch up a little bit. I haven't seen you in, I don't know, a week and a half.
I know. Well, we're still talking about our birthday dinner that we had at the beautiful New Milos.
My birthday dinner, not our birthday dinner. It was your birthday.
Oh, your birthday dinner. Well, we were all part of the birthday dinner. And so that was really a beautiful new building. They're building so many new buildings in West Palm Beach here. It's going to look, it is already a big city, but it's going to even be more so.
So you'll be surprised those people who come down here for the first time, when you would think it was a small little community, it's tremendous. And all the young people who are moving here are

Chapter 4: What were the key fashion trends at the Oscars?
Chapter 5: What is the latest buzz about restaurant reservations in NYC?
Oh, your birthday dinner. Well, we were all part of the birthday dinner. And so that was really a beautiful new building. They're building so many new buildings in West Palm Beach here. It's going to look, it is already a big city, but it's going to even be more so.
So you'll be surprised those people who come down here for the first time, when you would think it was a small little community, it's tremendous. And all the young people who are moving here are
uh with families and new schools are opening and new hospitals are being created vanderbilt is opening a business school in west palm so they're going to have lots of new people here creating new jobs and um it's a very exciting place to be young and and here at this point i'm already over it i'm just aggravated with the traffic but for young people who are starting out in life this is going to be a very very viable community
Well, so my birthday dinner was at the restaurant Milos, but I still think the clientele maybe was a little older. Oh, yes. Well, it's very expensive restaurant. Yeah.
Chapter 6: How can women navigate family drama?
But it's really expensive.
Beautiful. It looks like the one in Hudson Yards. I don't I haven't been to the one in Midtown, so I don't know what that one looks like.
Chapter 7: What fun activities do they suggest in the 'Should We Bring It Back?' segment?
Chapter 8: What dating advice does Grandma Gail offer?
The one in it's very pretty. The one in Miami, I think, is the prettiest of them all and delicious. Oh, yeah. It was the I ate there several years ago. It's delicious with my girlfriends. We had such a delicious dinner. No, they do a good job. I think the one here needs to get their act a little bit more together. I ordered lamb chops and got rack of lamb. But they were very good.
You just got more than what you ordered. Exactly. I got more than what I bargained for in that. But they didn't charge us. They were very nice. And they put it all in the middle of the table. There was more than enough food. We could have fed an army at the end of the dinner. And the dessert, I love that dessert.
Oh, I forgot what it was. It's some special coconut.
Yeah, it was delicious. That was the best thing. I loved it.
But they let you look at the fish before. Well, they do that in all of them. Yeah, but I don't like to look at the fish because they just stare back at you. And I that's there.
That's there. That's their modus operandi because they charge you by the pound. And that's when it gets very expensive. So if you order on the menu, not the big fishes, it can be really much difference in price for those who want to watch their budget and still want to go to the restaurant, order actual dishes on the menu. Don't order the big fish.
Right.
You know, that's what they're known for.
The big fish, yes.
