Good evening, everybody. I'm Gary Dolphin, your quiet and reserved host. Coach Ferentz will join us at the top of the hour shortly after 7 o'clock, as he usually does. The Hawkeyes are 2-0 after that straight-up melee with the Iowa State Cyclones. Last Saturday night, 16-13, kicker Caden Burr hit a game-winning field goal with 15 seconds remaining to give the Hawkeyes the victory.

Punter Boston Everett averaged 44 yards on six kicks, and I bring Boston up because four of his punts were down inside the 20. Special teams were huge, as they always seem to be when Iowa and Iowa State get together. Quarterback Hank Brown completed 21 of 30 passes. Good night for Hank. Total of 190 yards. He had his second rushing touchdown this season. And receiver Tony Diaz continued his hot start to the year with eight receptions. on 12 targets for 95 yards, including a 56-yard hookup that set up Brown's one-yard plunge. The Hawkeyes rushed for 93 yards, but 73 of those came in the fourth quarter, and that helped set up that game-winning three-pointer. by freshman Burr, the Big Ten's special teams player of the week.

Congratulations to Caden Burr. The Hawkeye defense solid again, limiting the Cyclones to 255 total yards and nine first downs and just three second-half points. Job well done because that Iowa State quarterback, Jalen Rayner, You add him in that backfield with running back Aiden Flora and receivers Evan Boyd, Amari Hayes, and others. They've got plenty of talent in Ames. Flora got away for 34 of his 89 yards, and Rainer's longest pass completion went for 28. So one run of 34, one pass play of 28, and that was it. The Hawks did a terrific job of keeping the play in front of them all night long, especially Cam Buffington, from Winfield. Man, what a night. Fifteen tackles, nine unassisted. Buffington, the sophomore from Winfield, was named the Lot Impact Player of the Week today for his efforts.

And those of us old enough to remember when Ronnie Lot played, he could hit like a freight train. Buffington was all over the field. Ten tackles in the first half alone and his 15 total tackles. That's the highest single game mark since the great Jay Higgins back in 2024. And Buffington, he wants to prepare like that every week.
Cam Buffington 4:13
You know, I think we've got to be hungry, too, each week, no matter who we play. I think we always have to strive, you know, to – to be better in everything we do, fundamentals and all that. And it is another end state, and we have to respect that. But again, I think it's another opponent that we have to treat as faceless and nameless, no matter who we play each week, no matter what they're ranked, what does not matter. It's how well can we prepare. each week and you know can we can we win sunday on our preparation queen one monday and then each day can we continue to get better no matter who we're playing
