What does Andy Brassell think about Arsenal’s start to the Champions League?

Marcus Speller 0:00
You made a good choice everybody. Welcome to the Football Ramble! Wins for Arsenal and Liverpool and a madness at Stamford Bridge. It's Thursday, 10th of September. I'm Marcus Speller.
Luke Moore 0:10
I'm Luke Moore and I'm Andy Rassell.
Marcus Speller 0:24
Welcome back, Andy Brassell. He's just a rascal, Andy Brassel. And Andy has joined us on a one episode loan from On the Continent. And you can still hear him uh there every Thursday and Friday, don't worry, but he's joined us for for one episode and one episode only. Unless he impresses, of course. Andy, pleasure to have you back.
Luke Moore 0:47
Thanks for having me. Uh as you'll be aware and as all our listeners will be aware, um you've been able to take uh note of a continental advantage. In France, of course, you can sign one player outside of the transfer window. Uh so you've taken advantage of that to uh
Jim Campbell 1:02
affect the Very good. Marcus, can I just come in here with a few kind of rules, ground rules for Andy? Um I I need to ensure on behalf of you and I and everyone listening and watching, and the production staff as well, that if Andy is gonna come here to work He does need to respect our traditions, our rules and our customs. If not, he can far as I'm concerned, he can go straight back where he came from.
Luke Moore 1:23
I did know actually last week that uh Nigel Farage is selling Reform UK home and away shirts. Very
Jim Campbell 1:29
good. So you wanna take your jacket off and show us?
Marcus Speller 1:33
Enough of the bollocks. Um there was some football last night. And Andy, you'll be pleased to know it happened on the continent. Woo. Napoli zero, Arsenal one. That man, Martin Odegaard, got the goal for Arsenal. He's picked up four man of the matches in five games this season. That includes the Community Shield. Andy. Good win for Arsenal, just a solitary goal. And uh they walk away with a three.
Luke Moore 1:59
Yeah, and easier in reality than i it looks on the score sheet, I would I I would say. Um Arsenal were all over Napoli for a lot of this. It was a really good time to to play them. They'd just come off two successive defeats, um, missing some key players, including McTominay and Anne Gisson, and obviously they picked up a few more injuries on the on the night. But I I I did feel that in terms of Arsenal Being in a spot where They sort of moving towards winning this finally. I d is is a pretty good start. It's a pretty convincing start, I thought.
Jim Campbell 2:35
Yeah, I agree. I I think um I think what's the the the real standout story is is the is the Martin Odegaard thing. Um you could possibly argue that um Perhaps the reason they didn't go over the top in the Champions League last season, you know, people may disagree with this, but there's definitely one of the reasons is that Erdegaard was essentially a passenger last year for the most part, right? He scores what, one goal in the Premier League, I think one goal in all competitions last season, looked to have been carrying an injury, didn't really contribute in terms of goals. um at all in the Champions League uh and is their arguably on form their key player, obviously their captain as well. The fact that he started the season so well means that in games like this, where it's a bit sticky, you're dominating the game, you're the better side, you're away from home and you need to get out of there with a win somehow.
Jim Campbell 3:27
you know, as we've seen time and time again, the very, very best players can pop up and make something happen. And it wasn't just the fact that he scored, it's the goal he scored which was really good. He was basically running the show. He had the run of the pitch really and His form could well be the difference between you know, Arsenal finding it hard to lift themselves again to go and do it again domestically, but also get that trophy they've craved for ages in the Champions League as well, he could be the difference maker. It's early to say, we're only in the mid you know beginning of September at the moment. But if he maintains this form for a large part of the season, he is a hundred percent a difference maker.
Jim Campbell 4:04
And the but the other player I'd like to um to highlight in this as well is Ezri Conza, who um
