You often comment. You don't ask questions. No. You comment. And it's sometimes rude, but I usually read them out. I think that's fine, isn't it?

0

82.318 - 104.425 Pete Donaldson

Yeah. Are you having a little comment? Do you want to slag us off? Like Pete? Helps us grow. Helps us grow, exactly. I'm moulding you like a rotten bit of soap in a shower. Just like that. Just like that. Right, on to the questions then. Peter, you got the first one. I do have the first one. It comes from Job with a double B. 1989 on Instagram. Should Manchester United keep Carrick third?

104.765 - 106.688 Pete Donaldson

It's very impressive considering where it started.

Chapter 2: Should Manchester United keep Michael Carrick as manager?

108.311 - 108.712 Pete Donaldson

Marcus.

0

109.473 - 111.917 Marcus Speller

Yes. Well, they weren't third when he took over.

0

112.277 - 112.658 Pete Donaldson

No.

0

113.414 - 114.436 Marcus Speller

They were lower than that.

0

114.476 - 114.736 Pete Donaldson

Yes.

115.458 - 135.88 Marcus Speller

Emotionally. Far lower than that emotionally. And they were not going to get European football. They let us remind ourselves that they were beaten by Grimsby Town in the Cup. They were going nowhere. And... The upturn in form under Carrick has been very, very evident.

136.921 - 150.463 Marcus Speller

And then we heard on yesterday's show, Cobby Mayne, whose comments about, you know, how they're willing to die for him on the pitch and the confidence and the belief he has in all of the players, particularly him, of course, but all the players. So it's been far better under Carrick.

150.543 - 171.123 Marcus Speller

Now, at the moment, Manchester United, my very, very high level sources have informed me and the rest of the media that Manchester United, the club are looking around and assessing their options. I think that's something that we're all very aware of. And so they are definitely doing that. The chat is... And Vish said this on the show yesterday.

171.203 - 195.911 Marcus Speller

He said, if they can't get Andoni Iriola, then give it to Carrick. Now, it may not be Iriola, the name on other fans' lips, but that's clearly where they are now. They think, right, is there someone who's... a more experienced manager, more experienced Premier League manager, or a big hitter. But as everybody has observed, how many big hitters are there available and how many are there?

Chapter 3: What are the implications of Carrick's recent performance?

324.215 - 339.5 Marcus Speller

To start, when you try and do this, and say, oh, but that manager did that there. I understand totally. We all do it. But sometimes someone just fits in a job. They go with it. They were a little bit younger. They were a little bit more inexperienced, whatever it may be, the different playing field.

0

339.881 - 345.371 Marcus Speller

One of the things that a lot of people have been saying about this is, is it a bit Olig on a Solskjaer?

0

346.132 - 350.46 Pete Donaldson

If they hadn't had Olig on a Solskjaer, you imagine that he would have a bit more of a crack of the whip.

0

350.44 - 352.084 Marcus Speller

I agree with that point, definitely.

0

352.224 - 371.987 Pete Donaldson

I definitely agree with that. And to be honest, most of the managers, you know, the last three postings have been managers who haven't managed in the Premier League or they're slightly untested at this, you know, the top table, so to speak. So you do sort of ask the question, is this... Is it one of those things where has the rebuild or the steadying ended at the end of the season?

372.548 - 392.661 Pete Donaldson

Do we need a few more months of this and maybe, you know, see who's available, you know, heading towards Christmas next year? Or would you give Michael Carrick a war chest? Would you give him enough money to sign his own players? But... But Michael Carrick's never experienced that before. He's always, in his coaching career, just made do with what he had, effectively.

392.761 - 394.564 Pete Donaldson

Sure, but he wouldn't be doing it alone, though.

394.584 - 398.111 Jim Campbell

No, they have Jason Wilcox in there, who's quite a hands-on sporting director.

398.311 - 407.487 Pete Donaldson

For me... Yeah, he wants to be in the dugout. Remember, he was sort of talking the big... He wanted to be in the dugout, didn't he? I think that's how we'd all like to see this play.

Chapter 4: How does Carrick compare to previous Manchester United managers?

2282.267 - 2283.289 Pete Donaldson

Probably a good idea, isn't it?

0

2283.269 - 2303.488 Pete Donaldson

yeah well he may well leave he may well leave and so they'll be needing spunkers as you say yeah but I mean look they've got a couple with Chow and Botman and stuff like that you know it's not like it's not as grim as it used to be in the back line he's got a bit of a keeper crisis to deal with I don't understand why Pope's getting played over what else he's got on the bench but

0

2303.468 - 2322.81 Pete Donaldson

and you're going to be losing probably Tenali possibly Bruno definitely Gordon and maybe Walter Marder as well it's going to be he's going to have a lot of money in the pot to spend it's a big summer for Newcastle yeah and I don't think you're going to get upgrades on players like Tenali do you really think they would lose all of those players

0

2322.79 - 2339.134 Pete Donaldson

I think everyone's got a price tag and they are, they're some of those players that you would sort of get out of Newcastle for like 60 million. Whereas if you're trying to pry, you know, players from like Arsenal or something or Man City, you're obviously going to be looking at 100 millions and stuff.

0

2339.154 - 2346.504 Jim Campbell

So I think, I think that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still our biggest outweighing sale. So I take your point, but Arsenal are not a good example.

2346.524 - 2352.954 Marcus Speller

No, but you're right. And I think, I think, look at Tenali, you know, like how many teams will think, let's test Newcastle United's resolve with him. Massive.

2353.094 - 2361.943 Pete Donaldson

Massive. And it sounds very much like they want to go. They want to play Champions League football, these players. It's supposed to be a club that has played Champions League football with that amount of money going in. I just can't see why.

2361.963 - 2369.771 Marcus Speller

Well, I think that's a big factor, Peter, because I think if, you know, Newcastle played Champions League football. They played knockout football in the Champions League this season. That is, you know, players want more of that.

2369.991 - 2370.492 Pete Donaldson

Of course they do.
